RT. HON. SPEAKER TAJUDEEN ABBAS AT 61: A STATESMAN, A BROTHER, A SOURCE OF PRIDE
On behalf of the Government and people of Kaduna State, I warmly felicitate with my dear brother, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, PhD, GCON, on his 61st birthday. Today, we celebrate a distinguished son of Kaduna whose life demonstrates how scholarship, humility and steadfast devotion to the people can elevate public service and strengthen the foundations of our democracy.
Mr. Speaker, you are a thoroughbred leader, a gentleman of uncommon grace and a grassroots politician whose connection with the people remains enduring. From Zaria Federal Constituency to communities across Kaduna State and beyond, your immense following rests on trust earned through accessibility, empathy and faithful representation. The affection you command reflects the consistency with which you have listened, served and upheld the dignity of those who entrusted you with their hopes.
As Iyan Zazzau, you carry a cherished heritage with distinction; as Speaker, you have embraced the larger responsibilities of national leadership with wisdom and integrity. You are a core nationalist whose commitment to Nigeria rises above sectional considerations. Your capacity to build consensus across political, ethnic and religious differences affirms a conviction we share: that our diversity must enrich our common purpose and that leadership must give every Nigerian a sense of belonging.
In my considered judgment, you are one of the finest Speakers to have presided over the House of Representatives since Nigeria returned to democratic rule in 1999. Your calm authority, legislative experience and respect for colleagues have fostered stability, cooperation and purposeful deliberation. Through your stewardship, the House continues to demonstrate the value of disciplined leadership, institutional responsibility and legislation responsive to the aspirations of our citizens.
I particularly commend your outstanding commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. As one of its foremost champions, you have provided invaluable legislative support for reforms directed towards national renewal, economic opportunity and improved wellbeing. Your partnership in this endeavour reflects a clear understanding that the ultimate measure of governance is the difference it makes in the lives of ordinary Nigerians.
For me, your birthday also honours a dear brother, trusted ally and generous team player. Our partnership in the onerous but joyful task of restoring Kaduna State’s glory and pride remains a source of encouragement. Together, we are working to renew Kaduna’s promise as the soul and capital of Northern Nigeria, strengthening unity, widening opportunity and ensuring that progress reaches our communities. I deeply cherish your counsel, solidarity and unwavering commitment to our people.
As you mark this milestone, I pray that Almighty Allah grants you sound health, enduring strength, greater wisdom and many more years of fruitful service to Kaduna State and Nigeria. May your home remain blessed, your endeavours prosper and your legacy of service continue to inspire generations.
Happy 61st birthday, Mr. Speaker, my dear brother. May the years ahead bring fulfilment and abundant grace.
Senator Uba Sani, CON
Governor, Kaduna State.

INDEPENDENCE: UBA SANI FREES 27 INMATES, CLEMENCY BENEFICIARIES EXCEED 500
Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has granted clemency to 27 inmates in correctional facilities across the state to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary, bringing the number of beneficiaries of his administration’s clemency interventions to more than 500.
The exercise covers the release of eligible inmates as well as the payment of fines and compensation for others, as part of the administration’s restorative justice initiative.
The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, disclosed this in a statement in Kaduna, saying the administration has committed more than ₦300 million to the payment of fines and compensation for victims since Governor Sani assumed office in May 2023.
Maiyaki said the latest intervention reflects the Governor’s commitment to a justice system that balances accountability and public safety with rehabilitation, reconciliation and the possibility of a second chance for deserving individuals.
“As Nigeria celebrates 66 years of independence, Governor Uba Sani’s intervention gives practical expression to the compassion and shared humanity upon which enduring communities are built."
“The significance of clemency extends beyond release from custody; it lies in restoring hope and opening a credible path towards responsible citizenship,” he said.
Providing further details, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Sir James A. Kanyip, said the latest exercise continues the Governor’s practice of extending clemency on significant national occasions, including New Year, Democracy Day and Independence Day.
Kanyip explained that the prerogative of mercy is exercised through established processes, with due regard to accountability, rehabilitation and the responsibilities that accompany freedom.
He said the payment of fines and compensation gives the initiative an important restorative dimension by removing financial barriers that may keep deserving inmates in custody while also recognising the interests of victims.
According to the Attorney-General, the scale and continuity of the interventions demonstrate that clemency under the administration is not a one-off gesture but part of a broader approach to justice and social reintegration.
“Each beneficiary represents a life offered another opportunity, a family reunited and a community with a renewed stake in successful reintegration. This commitment reflects the belief that justice serves society best when it also makes renewal possible,” Kanyip said.
The Commissioner for Information and Culture further reaffirmed the commitment of Governor Uba Sani to protecting society and respecting victims’ interests while supporting deserving beneficiaries to return to their families and communities as responsible and productive citizens.
Reels: The Uba Sani Aides Assembly (USAA), comprising Technical, Special, and Senior Special Assistants to the Governor, has commended Governor Senator Uba Sani for executing infrastructure projects of unprecedented scale, quality, and distribution across Kaduna State.
Their endorsement follows a physical tour of three major capital projects in the Kaduna metropolis: the Modern Inter-State Bus Terminal at Millennium City (Chikun LGA), the Kabala Costain–Aliyu Makama Road and Bridge connecting northern and southern Kaduna City, and the ongoing reconstruction of Ahmadu Bello Stadium.

2026 INDEPENDENCE DAY ADDRESS: FROM REFORMS TO PROSPERITY
My fellow Nigerians,
Sixty-six years ago today, our flag was raised, for the first time, over a free and sovereign nation. Since then, we have journeyed together as one nation, bound by our collective trust in the great promise of Nigeria: that a country of our size, our bountiful resources, our cultural diversity and, above all, our extraordinary people can build a giant in Africa; that in this blessed and fertile land we can build a united, strong and prosperous nation; a land of regional authority and global consequence.
Our journey has not always been easy. In truth, it has generally been too hard for too many. We have known moments of great hope and periods of profound disappointment. We have endured war, military rule, economic crises, insecurity and political upheaval. Yet through it all, Nigeria, with the indomitable spirit of its people, has endured.
It has endured through the efforts of the farmer who rises before dawn to work his land. The trader who opens her shop each morning, hopeful for a productive day. The teacher who believes in the children entrusted to her care and the young entrepreneur who refuses to surrender ambition to circumstance. We are grateful for the men and women of our Armed Forces and security services who place themselves in harm's way so that the rest of us may live in peace.
Through every difficulty, generations of Nigerians have continued to believe in one thing: that this country of ours will be better.
This faith, which sustains us all, is the inheritance of independence. Our founding fathers did not struggle merely for a flag, an anthem or a place among the nations of the world. Independence carried a larger promise: that Nigerians would have the freedom to shape their own destiny and build a nation capable of providing opportunity, dignity and a better life for its people. Sixty-six years later, Almighty God has made it our responsibility to deliver that promise.
Today, as we celebrate our independence, we must speak honestly about the journey so far, the choices we made, and the country we are determined to build from here.
For too long, the promise of Nigeria was undermined by choices that postponed difficult decisions and allowed deep economic distortions to grow.
By 2023, poverty was rising, and hope was nearly gone. The country's situation was darker than ever. We had no choice but to act.
Nigeria was like a sick patient who receives the terrible news that he has cancer. His doctor explains that the treatment will be difficult and painful, but that it offers a strong prospect of recovery. The patient has a choice. He can begin treatment, endure its discomfort and fight the disease. Or he can ask only for morphine, dull the pain and leave the cancer to spread.
For too long, Nigeria's leaders chose morphine while praying for a miracle that never came.
They focused on symptoms while allowing the disease to take hold deep within the fabric of our society. We spent enormous sums sustaining inefficient arrangements that were never intended to last. We hid from difficult truths and passed the consequences from one generation to the next.
When this Administration assumed office, we resolved to do things differently. We chose to excise the cancer. The reforms that followed were difficult. The side effects were real. Yet, we must never confuse the medicine with the disease.
Our reforms did not create the weaknesses in our economy. They confronted them. Now, as certain influential but regressive voices would have us abandon the treatment and return ourselves to the abuse of addictive subsidies, we must resist their siren song. We must remember why we began this journey and how far we have already come.
Governor Uba Sani is the most qualified among the three candidates—the ADC candidate, the APC candidate, and the PDP candidate. He is the most consultative leader among them, open to correction, and deeply compassionate.

33,137 teachers trained. 373,000 learners reached.
That is more than a number. It means more teachers getting the support they need, and more children getting the attention they deserve in the classroom.
Under Governor Uba Sani, the focus is clearly to strengthen our teachers, improve learning and keep building on the progress already made.

NIGERIA AT 66: THE NATION WE OWE OUR CHILDREN
As we commemorate our great nation’s 66th Independence Anniversary, I join all Nigerians, particularly my dearly beloved people of Kaduna State, in gratitude to Almighty God for the gift of nationhood and the grace that has sustained our journey. This anniversary invites us to honour our founding fathers, whose courage transformed the yearning for freedom into the sovereign nation we proudly call our own. Their enduring legacy entrusts every generation with the responsibility to make independence meaningful in the lives of our people.
Nigeria stands as the world’s most populous black nation, a source of African pride and a beacon of possibility. Our cultural richness, human ingenuity and extraordinary resilience have sustained our promise through difficult seasons. Under the Renewed Hope Agenda of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, our shared responsibility is to translate that promise into prosperity that reaches every household and opportunities that expand every child’s horizons. I am proud of Mr. President’s courageous leadership and steadfast commitment to this national endeavour.
Peace and stability are indispensable to the fulfilment of our aspirations. A farmer must be able to cultivate his land, a trader open her shop and a child attend school without fear. My administration in Kaduna State, working closely with the Federal Government under President Tinubu’s leadership, remains committed to strengthening security, improving public safety and creating an environment in which our people can live, work and pursue their legitimate aspirations with confidence.
To the people of Kaduna State, I reaffirm an abiding conviction: our diversity is our strength, and our shared humanity must guide our relationships. The dignity we seek for ourselves must extend to our neighbours. Let us reject prejudices that weaken our bonds and resist attempts to turn our differences into instruments of division. Through mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and collective determination, we will build a stronger Kaduna State and a more prosperous Nigeria.
The patriotism of our founding fathers calls us to sacrifice and accountability. Citizens must discharge their civic responsibilities, just as leaders must honour the trust placed in them. Sacrifice acquires moral force when leadership shares its demands and ensures that its rewards improve the lives of the people. Our love of country must find expression in the integrity of our conduct and the care we show one another.
This year, we celebrated 27 years of uninterrupted democratic rule. We thank Almighty God for this achievement while acknowledging our responsibility to deepen its substance. Democracy fulfils its purpose when citizens are heard, institutions inspire confidence and public service safeguards human dignity. Its enduring value must be evident in the security, opportunity and wellbeing it delivers.
To every public official, I offer this solemn reminder: we shall ultimately account for our stewardship before Almighty God. Let wisdom guide our decisions, integrity govern our conduct and compassion shape our priorities. The authority entrusted to us obliges us to serve faithfully, protect public resources and leave our communities better than we found them.
A new, albeit far better, Nigeria is achievable. Through our work in Kaduna State and the Renewed Hope Agenda nationally, we remain resolute in building a country worthy of our heroes’ sacrifices and our children’s trust. Let us pray for its peace, labour for its prosperity and strengthen the bonds that sustain our common destiny.
I wish the good people of Kaduna State and all Nigerians a happy 66th Independence Anniversary. May Almighty God protect our nation, bless our people and strengthen our resolve to build the Nigeria we owe our children.
Senator Uba Sani, CON
Governor of Kaduna State

On behalf of the Ministry of Local Government Affairs, I heartily congratulate all Nigerians, and indeed the good people of Kaduna State, on the occasion of our 66th Independence Anniversary.
Today reminds us of the courage of our founding fathers and our collective resolve as a people united in diversity, peace and progress.
As we celebrate, let us renew our commitment to building a stronger Nigeria, starting from our local communities. In Kaduna State, under the visionary leadership of His Excellency, Sen. Uba Sani, CON, we will continue to strengthen governance at the grassroots for sustainable development.
Happy Independence Day!

Uba Sani Aides Assembly Commends Governor Over Scale, Quality and Spread of Infrastructure Across Kaduna, Pledges Statewide Awareness Campaign
The Uba Sani Aides Assembly (USAA), a forum of Technical Assistants, Special Assistants and Senior Special Assistants to the Governor, has commended His Excellency, Senator Uba Sani, CON, for delivering infrastructure renewal on a scale, quality and spread never before seen in the history of Kaduna State.
The commendation followed the Assembly's tour of three flagship projects in Kaduna metropolis: the Kaduna Modern Inter-State Bus Terminal at Millennium City in Chikun LGA; the Kabala Costain to Aliyu Makama Road and Bridge linking the northern and southern parts of Kaduna City; and the ongoing reconstruction of the Ahmadu Bello Stadium. The tour was led by the Chairman of the Assembly, Hon. Ibrahim Mohammed, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Energy.
The Kaduna Modern Inter-State Bus Terminal sits on 18 hectares at Millennium City. It is the largest of its kind in sub-Saharan West Africa, with capacity for 5,000 vehicles. Designed as a modern transport hub with state-of-the-art facilities, it is powered entirely by an independent solar grid, making it efficient, environmentally responsible, and a model for public infrastructure.
The terminal will ease chronic congestion in Kaduna city by diverting inter-state and heavy vehicle movement to Millennium City, reducing travel time, improving safety, and enhancing the passenger experience. It will also create jobs, open commercial opportunities for small businesses and attract investment to Chikun and adjoining communities.
The Assembly noted that the terminal is not a stand-alone project but part of a wider transport vision that includes the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, the planned Light Rail and the modernisation of motor parks across the state.
Speaking at the site, Hon. Ibrahim Mohammed said: "This terminal is a statement of vision. Governor Uba Sani is not building for the next election; he is building for the next generation. What we have seen here will change how people travel, trade and do business in Kaduna and across the region.
The Assembly also visited the Kabala to Aliyu Makama Road and Bridge. The strategic corridor had stalled since 2022 due to unpaid contractor certificates, unresolved compensation claims and utility relocation costs. Inherited at about 30 percent completion, Governor Uba Sani settled the outstanding obligations and remobilized contractors to site.
The contractor has now launched 42 of the 56 required beams on the bridge, a section where no work had previously been done. Upon completion, the link will shorten travel time between both sides of the city, relieve pressure on existing routes, improve access to schools, markets, hospitals and workplaces, and revive commercial activity along the Barnawa-Kabala corridor.
The third stop was the historic Ahmadu Bello Stadium. The stadium is being reconstructed and expanded from 16,000 to 33,000 seats, making it the second largest in Nigeria after the Moshood Abiola National Stadium. It will feature a hybrid football pitch and Olympic-standard facilities.
The stadium will remain a national asset, open to national teams, federal sporting programmes and major events. Beyond sports, it is an economic investment that will attract tournaments and visitors, boost hotels, restaurants and transport services, create jobs for youths and restore Kaduna's place as a centre of football and athletics.
The Assembly stressed that these three projects are only a fraction of a larger picture. The administration has initiated 160 new road projects in addition to inherited ones, bringing the total road network under construction to 1,355 kilometres across the 23 LGAs. Both urban and rural communities are benefiting.
In line with His Excellency, Sen. Uba Sani’s vision for a cleaner and healthier Kaduna, I am pleased to announce the screening and orientation of new personnel for Operation Tsapta.
Facilitated through my Ministry, these new recruits will complement the 5,000 sanitation personnel engaged earlier this year to strengthen environmental sanitation across Kaduna metropolis.
We remain committed to sustaining a clean, safe and healthy environment for all citizens.

Update on the completion of Kabala Costain-Aliyu Makama Road
Construction is progressing steadily on the new bridge, designed to complement the existing structure built by the previous administration. Revitalised under the leadership of Governor Uba Sani, this vital Barnawa project spans the Kaduna River to create a seamless link between Kaduna South and Kaduna North.
Once completed, the dual-carriageway crossing will ease traffic congestion around Stadium Roundabout, improve flood resilience, and boost commercial activity across the city.
