@RachelReevesMP Disappointing to see this divisive policy framed as progress. Scrapping a so-called ‘tax break’ won’t fix state schools—it fuels division and does more harm than good. Education deserves better.
@hmtreasury Should the @hmtreasury really be tweeting like this? It feels more like political campaigning than impartial info!
Families choosing private schools are being unfairly painted as tax dodgers—they already fund the state system too. This just fuels division and resentment.
@hmtreasury Taxing private schools forces students into an already overstretched state system. Grammar school exams now overwhelmed by coached private pupils, and wealthy families relocating to top catchment areas. This policy doesn’t level the playing field—it tilts it. Lose-lose for all!
@bphillipsonMP Rather - This reckless move will seriously harm young people’s mental health.
And the idea of extra tax revenue? It’s a fantasy in large—many private schools won’t survive to pay it… but our state school system will have to!
@bphillipsonMP What a crap, out of touch, ill-informed, hateful policy & mindset.
The private school lot are simply going to flood the (best) state schools, stretching resources even more and squeezing out the locals, buying up and inflating certain property prices around best state schools.
@evainmotherland @bankofireland Thanks for highlighting this - the one which really shocked me was that the child benefit agency in Ireland will only engage with the Mother (even when we asked for the Father, who is married and living with the Mother, to set everything up or change something they refused).
@elonmusk@elonmusk are there globally consistent laws to apply to this global platform though? Whilst this solution sounds clear and ideal, it is probably an over simplified view of the situation from a lack of experience in this industry… which is totally understandable, for now.
@elonmusk Well this is concerning and one way to lose industry leading talent at Twitter quickly. @elonmusk one way to really understand such complexities is to work as a content moderator for a few shifts… up for it?
