TLDR on the talk with @HayatOutahar on blockchain geopolitics and decolonizing cyberspace:
the core tension
– the cypherpunk community has individual sovereignty because of technical privilege. but most people will never be cypherpunks, and they’re the ones who need these tools most. can we transform a culture of resistance into a culture of influence?
– we’ve moved from digital colonialism to cognitive colonialism: AI now stores intimate data (feelings, confessions, private thoughts) giving corporations and governments access to something they never had before. the people who understand this danger aren’t the ones most exposed to it
why blockchain is geopolitics
– cyberspace is the fifth geopolitical domain. like land, sea, air, and space - wars are fought there, territory is claimed, power is projected. states and big tech are already treating it that way. the decentralized community isn’t at the table yet
– the global North uses decentralized infrastructure to understand how to extend dominance. the global South uses it to reduce corruption and build alternatives. same technology, completely different stakes
– what we built is being absorbed: crypto assets are now regulated, stablecoins are bank liquidity infrastructure, CBDCs are state monetary control. institutions are building “private blockchains”, inspired by what we built, stripped of what made it meaningful
what needs to happen
– the decentralized ecosystem needs ambassadors. right now, decisions about the future of cyberspace are made between big tech, states, and banks - without us
– Ethereum as a political laboratory: DAOs already know how to govern, find consensus, manage conflict. that capacity should be turned outward, not just inward
– network states as proof of concept: Liberland, Zuzalu, Ilvermont; each a laboratory for hybrid governance. sovereignty is infrastructural: if you control your infrastructure, you are sovereign
– what’s needed: cross-chain alliances, digital non-dominance charters, and global consultative structures that give the ecosystem a real voice in regulation
What if blockchain could actually break free from Western-dominated surveillance networks instead of reinforcing them?

This isn't just about tech, it's about who gets to control the future of digital freedom.
Can blockchain and zero-knowledge proofs reinvent civic participation? 🤔
This article by @HayatOutahar explores how DAOs and ZKPs can enhance democratic processes by enabling secure, transparent, and privacy-preserving digital governance in civic tech 👥

Is more choice always better in DAO governance? 🤔
This article from @HayatOutahar explores how excessive options can paralyse decision-making in DAOs, arguing that shared vision and clear priorities are essential for effective decentralised governance 👥

This is a remarkable claim given what I have heard alleged that Elon does to manipulate X to benefit himself and his own companies and harm his competitors and people he doesn't like.
Does tech make DAO politics visible rather than vanish? 🤔
This article by @HayatOutahar is a tour of hybrid governance in 2025: off-chain debate, on-chain execution, checks and counterweights across Decentraland, Optimism, Arbitrum, MakerDAO & Gitcoin 🌐

@AnnaHardy28348@HayatOutahar@DavidNeomi873 Both are risks but they’re intertwined 🔄. Control without safeguards leads to exclusion, and exclusion fuels control. #CBDCs need governance protecting freedom, privacy & inclusion from day one, otherwise the tech becomes a political weapon 🛡️
