hat "Hungry Hippo" fairing design—officially named the "Hungry Hippo" architecture—is actually one of the most unique engineering choices on the Neutron rocket.

Unlike traditional rockets where fairing halves jettison completely into the ocean (or get fished out for refurbishment like SpaceX does), Rocket Lab built the fairings directly into the first stage structure. They open up like a giant jaws/mouth in space to release Stage 2 and the payload, and then shut close before the first stage returns to Earth for landing.
