The most unexpected twist of late 2026 is watching Google become the lab suffocating everyone else with pure shipping velocity.
For two years, the consensus knock on DeepMind was corporate inertia: world-class research slowed down by risk-averse committees while OpenAI and Anthropic dictated the tempo.
Instead, Google just shipped Gemini 4 Argon, Genie 4, and Gemini 4 Carbon inside a fourteen-day window—jumping nine points on Artificial Analysis (50 to 59) erasing Opus 5.5's #1 crown.
I did say we'd be releasing our models periodically...introducing Gemini 4 Carbon, our next frontier model.
Following Argon's release just two weeks ago, Carbon shows the pace at which we’re pushing the frontier, it ranks #1 on the recently updated v5.0 of @ArtificialAnlys Intelligence Index at 59. It also leads across key cybersecurity evaluations scoring 88.2% on SEC-bench Pro for finding vulnerabilities, 54.8% on ExploitGym for exploitation, and 71.0% on CWE-bench for patching.
We’re seeing significant improvements in long-horizon tasks even compared to Argon, and we’ve strengthened frontier safeguards.
As we did with Argon, we’re going to roll it out gradually + responsibly. Some trusted cyber defenders will get access starting this week. We'll be expanding it to more partners through our Fairwind Program, ahead of wider availability soon, so hang tight!

Team is working on this but it's not rolling out just yet, sorry for any confusion. Plan is to bring together best of both Chat / Work capabilities together at some point this year, but we're going to proceed carefully here and take our time.
We'll have more to share soon.
Claude Opus 5.5 finishing full builds two and a half times faster than Sol is huge.
Anthropic is winning on raw execution speed even when OpenAI edges out the final pass rate.
Today we're releasing ViBench 2.0, a benchmark for long-horizon software building. Agents start from an empty project and build a whole product, one feature at a time, without seeing what comes next.
Even the best models (GPT-6.1 Sol, GPT-6 Astra, Opus 5.5) pass every check in only 49-65% of builds.
ViBench 2.0 is now part of @FireworksAI_HQ’s Specialized Intelligence Index, with official results from Fireworks’ runs.

Every developer who uses Cursor or Codex daily knows the pain of feature four breaking feature two.
Single-prompt coding benchmarks are completely useless for real product work.
Long-horizon persistence is the only metric that actually reflects our day-to-day coding sessions.
