As I near the end of my @UNMSOM_GI GI fellowship, I’m grateful for the privilege of caring for the people of New Mexico and for the trust they placed in me. Thank you to my patients, mentors, co-fellows, and family for an unforgettable 3 years.
There are 19 types of cancer associated with obesity. But only a limited number have a very strong association. Two excellent review papers today @NatMetabolism

Today I learned from the great Marty Freeman (@UMN_GI) that he uses tapered tip catheter for epi injection during ERCP for post-sphincterotomy bleeding:
1) Easier to get over elevator vs needle
2) Less likely to cause mucosal tear/scrape
3) Allows for effective SM injection
For medical information, general AI frontier models (Google, OpenAI, Anthropic) outperformed specialized @EvidenceOpen and @UpToDate as assessed by 12 US clinicians, randomized and blinded to which model and extensive testing/benchmarks. This was not anticipated. @NatureMedicine

Sessile serrated lesions have lower dysplastic potential than tubular adenomas yet are THE LEADING CAUSE of post-colonoscopy colon cancer because they’re so frequently missed.
Adherent “mucus” in a well-prepped colon is a MAJOR clue. Resist the urge to wash it & look closer first.

1st RCT of 304 patients w/ mild-to-moderate acute cholangitis, urgentERCP (<24h) did NOT reduce 30D mortality vs earlyERCP (24–48h) but a/w with highr postERCP advrse events.
Maybe “earlier” isnot always “better”.
