I know Soto and Judge are the 2 best athletes in NY but neither has done much of anything in ‘26. You can’t upgrade the NYK starting 5 and not downgrade the injured baseball superstars.
On our last pod, we finalized the Top 15 Ny Athletes list for 2026. Have at it. There was no way a member of the title Knicks starting 5 was getting left off!!!
The preseason is more important than clowns like this will have you realize. Dudes are already getting hurt all over the place in September because they don’t play in August. You can’t hit the ground running, you have to build up.
Was 72 preseason yards worth it?
Jeremiyah Love got 14 touches against the Raiders. He finished with 72 yards and a high ankle sprain.
I found 74 confirmed incidents of NFL running backs suffering high ankle sprains over the past 20 seasons, so I looked at what happened next.
The median return time was 29 days.
During the first three games back:
• EPA per carry dropped by 0.08
• Rushing success rate fell from 42.0% to 37.8%
• The percentage of runs gaining at least 10 yards fell from 12.0% to 9.7%
There is also the risk of the workload itself. Using the general NFL running back injury rate, 14 touches works out to about a 2.7% chance of an injury, or roughly 1 in 37. The chance of an injury associated with missed time is about 1.6%, or roughly 1 in 62.
Those rates are not specific to the preseason, but they put the decision in perspective.
The Cardinals got 72 yards in a game that did not count. Now they may lose weeks of availability and could still get diminished production when Love returns.
That is the real cost of those 14 touches.
This is the type of crap nerds come up with when they choose a side of an argument. It’s crystal clear to those of us who lived through it that Maddux consistently underperformed in October compared to his reg season brilliance.
Maddux’s supposed postseason decline is 3.16 ERA to 3.27 ERA over only 198 innings- roughly one starter season- against disproportionately strong competition.
Pitching outcome components such as HR rate and XBH rate require roughly 1,300–1,450 batters faced to reach even conventional stabilization thresholds, while BABIP requires about 2,000 balls in play.
A 0.11 ERA difference in a sample representing less than 4% of Maddux’s career innings cannot establish a repeatable ‘playoff underperformance’ skill.
And…if tiny postseason samples prove clutch ability, Maddux’s 2.09 World Series ERA would prove the opposite of your argument.
This is my first season in, gosh, 25 years that I will not have played fantasy football. I quit all my leagues, including one I've been in for 22 years. It stopped being fun, and I really don't enjoy football like I used to. Anybody else experience this?
Feel bad for Volpe; seemed to peak as a good major leaguer in his early 20’s, and has been declining past couple years. To challenge twice in the first inning of a minor league game is desperate. To lose both challenges is brutal. I think he’s laughing at himself.
Paul Skenes and Livvy Dunne at the beach in Miami.
Skenes is simply not in shape for a pro athlete. In fact, it is not even close. IMO this cannot be helping his performance.
My question - is he fully committed and doing all he can to perform the best he possibly can?
In years past, if I had to watch the Yankees blow a massive division lead to the Red Sox, I’d be yelling, cursing people out, demanding everyone be fired and all that.
Right now, I feel nothing. That’s what 9 years of Cashman and Boone have done to me. What’s the point?
Heartbreaking: The legendary Tom Brady was seen all alone riding his $20 million mega yacht around Miami.
Brady is currently single, and his children live with his ex-wife, Gisele Bündchen, and her husband, Joaquim Valente.
Money doesn't equal happiness 😔💔
The Yanks could very well be dumber but they also just don’t care enough. If they brought in a new front office with the same budget they’d win more consistently in October. Cashman is lost.
It’s not mainly about the spending. They are smarter, too. When they see an elite level player, they’re willing to pay the price. Franchises like the Yankees aren’t because they’re dumber and also lack the guts.
Jazz Chisholm is hurt, clearly something leg related, feels like the fifth time this year and he always dodges going on the IL.
If he’s IL bound now and no George Lombard called up you have to question everything this organization is thinking,
