Hi! We're a consortium of 12 institutions from 8 countries, working together to investigate species redistributions in polar & alpine environments around the world. We're into the last round of a big funding call, & 1 step closer to becoming a reality! https://t.co/PPnTJQMb2P
Does microclimate data actually improve SDMs? Very much yes, and even at the European scale!
The impressive outcome of a new @SoilTemp_proj-paper led by @HaesenStef now out in Ecology Letters.
Why I think these results are extremely important?

1/n PLEASE SHARE: we are launching an ultimate call for microclimate data time series (and associated vegetation data) for inclusion in our growing @SoilTemp_proj database from all over the world!
Our local conservation decisions can dramatically slow down or speed up microclimate change, I argue today in @NatureClimate
Local microclimate management is thus crucial for species conservation in a warming climate!

PLS RETWEET: @UAntwerpen just opened a call for 7 MSCA-funded, 3-year junior post-doc positions. Candidates with max 6 years of post-doc experience. Topic: the urban environment!
Contact me if interested in urban microclimate or/and invasive plants!

Spread the word!
Half-day virtual SoilTemp symposium coming to a screen near you! All welcome to learn about our network and how to get involved.

"The mystery of the Dark and Light Beetles on Possession Island"
‼️NEW PAPER‼️ out from @TheASICSProject on dark and light morphotypes of a subantarctic beetle! Read my 'paperback detective' version of it in this blogpost

Important perspective piece by @cassandrafish et al in @ScienceMagazine: climate change and commercial fishing are immediate threats to biodiversity in the Antarctic ocean!
Time for a better strategy to conserve this amazing ecosystem!

We added a WHOLE LOT of new datasets to our database!
You can now freely explore the 37.633* sensor time series at https://t.co/uhj1nJWj5u
We're on a roll, so now would be a good time to submit your data!
*each TMS4 has 4 sensors, so this number is a bit inflated
Happy to share our new SoilTemp website!
All you need to know about our database, how to submit data and how to use our data products, neatly accessible in a few clicks!

Now the #PhD defense by @TW_FieldNotes has started!
An hour of cutting-edge science on how trails are affecting species distributions in mountains and, broader: how new plants are entering mountains, and how that impacts our precious mountain nature.
Hi people who were @imountainconf#imf2022! I'm super jealous I wasn't there!
This to let you know that we teamed up with @MtnResearchMRI to increase the representation of mountains in the @SoilTemp_proj database.
Reach out if you have microclimate data from mountains!
#MEB2022 is now approaching rapidly and the program is just eye-wateringly awesome 😍.
Here a few talks of closest collaborators you should definitely not miss⬇️

Hi fellow ecologists #ESA2022 and #CSEE2022! I'm only there in spirit, but see a fun way to bond🙂: we @SoilTemp_proj are always looking for microclimate data, and especially Canada still has a whole lot of blanks on our global map!
Please retweet!
Please get in touch!
The 3D Lab is on an epic fieldwork trip to Abisko, Sweden! Curious about the ups and downs?
Spoiler: it involves a distressed airline, true 'fellowship of the ring'-vibes and the 10th anniversary of our @MIREN_mountains plots and my master thesis 🤩!

@AlpineBiogeo@TOMSTloggers @UU_PhysGeog @TOMST Dwarfs are nice :-) We are using them for the @TheASICSProject . Now we have quite nice coverage of the world mountain regions... in combination with ion exchange probes, ideal... and of course near paths, where is high risk of damage by tourists or road management
NEW PAPER!
In the dry Argentinean Andes, non-native species don't stick to the trails, they are spread into the natural vegetation by livestock and through facilitative interactions with shrubs.
Get the story, and the mountain views😍, in the blog below
