Today, I joined the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu @jidesanwoolu , at the presentation of ₦3.1 billion in compensation to 331 property owners whose lands and buildings were acquired for critical infrastructure projects across Badagry, Epe, Ikorodu, Igbogbo and Ogba.

As the Lagos State Government continues to deliver the roads and public infrastructure needed to support a growing megacity, we remain equally committed to ensuring that those whose properties are affected are treated with fairness, dignity and respect.

Every compensation claim underwent a thorough verification process in line with established procedures to ensure that all rightful beneficiaries received their entitlements.

While these transformative projects will ultimately benefit millions of Lagosians, we do not take for granted the sacrifices made by those directly impacted.

Our commitment to transparency, accountability and equitable governance remains unwavering. Today’s presentation reflects that commitment and reinforces our resolve to build a Lagos where development is pursued with justice, compassion and responsibility.

Today, I accompanied the Governor of Lagos State, Mr @jidesanwoolu , the Deputy Governor, Dr @drobafemihamzat , and other members of the State Executive Council on an inspection tour of communities impacted by the excessive rainfall recorded over the past few days in Eti-Osa and Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Areas.

The inspection commenced at Ogombo, where stormwater from the surrounding communities discharges into the Ikota River. We subsequently visited Monastery Road Sangotedo, where our swamp buggy has been deployed carrying out extensive clearance operations, and Gbetu - Iwerekun Community behind Mayfair Gardens Estate. Plans are also underway to upgrade drainage infrastructure in the area to improve stormwater management and enhance flood resilience.

The team also inspected Chevron Drive, where a previously blocked drainage channel has now been reopened. This intervention is expected to significantly improve stormwater discharge and alleviate flooding in Ajiran, Osapa London, Orchid, VGC, and adjoining communities.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to implementing sustainable flood mitigation measures across the State. He assured Lagosians that the Government will continue to intensify efforts to address the challenges posed by heavy rainfall through strategic drainage improvements, canal maintenance, and critical infrastructure upgrades.

Today, I visited communities affected by the persistent rainfall across Lagos to see the situation firsthand and hear directly from residents whose homes, businesses and daily lives have been disrupted.

The heavy rains have placed significant pressure on our drainage infrastructure. As a coastal state, high tide and rising lagoon levels often prevent floodwater from draining quickly. But I also saw major drainage channels blocked by plastic waste, household refuse and banned Styrofoam. This is unacceptable. Anyone caught dumping refuse indiscriminately will be prosecuted according to the law.

I have directed the relevant agencies to intensify drainage clearing operations and provide support to affected communities. We will continue to monitor vulnerable areas and respond swiftly.

Government cannot do this alone. I urge every Lagosian to keep our drainage channels free of waste and follow safety advisories during this period of heavy rainfall. Protecting Lagos is a shared responsibility.

Please stay safe, avoid flooded roads where possible, and know that we are working around the clock to reduce flooding across the state.
