INSPIRATIONAL: #Commanders safety Tyler Owens’ journey to the #NFL is absolutely remarkable.

Owens was an ELITE prospect coming out of Plano East High School in Texas.

He was a four-star recruit, an All-American, ran a ridiculous 10.35-second 100-meter dash and was ranked as one of the top safeties in the country.

Tyler committed to TEXAS with massive expectations.

But things never really took off.

Owens spent THREE YEARS with the Longhorns and appeared in 27 games, but started just ONCE and recorded only 12 tackles.

So he transferred to Texas Tech looking for another opportunity.

Owens finally started to show what he could do, finishing his final college season with a career-high 37 tackles.

Then came the NFL Combine…

Owens recorded a 41-INCH VERTICAL and an unbelievable 12-FOOT-2 BROAD JUMP — just ONE INCH shy of the unofficial world record.

And despite being one of the most freakishly athletic players at the entire Combine…

HE WENT UNDRAFTED.

Washington gave Owens an opportunity as an undrafted free agent in 2024.

He entered camp fighting simply to make the team — and WON a spot on the Commanders’ initial 53-man roster.

From highly touted high school recruit, to barely playing at Texas, to transferring, going UNDRAFTED and having to fight for an NFL roster spot.

Now Tyler Owens has become one of the most feared special-teams players in football.

#Commanders LB Frankie Luvu suffered a minor groin strain and his status vs the Cowboys is uncertain, per @JFowlerESPN.

The injury is not significant long-term and Luvu is expected to not go to IR.
