Most PFP (membership) projects operate under the belief that they must be building a specific killer product or service today. This leads to the pursuit of ideas that lack sense, playbook copying, and the squandering of capital – not just financial, but also time and goodwill.

Today, the most valuable asset of *every* PFP project is undoubtedly its community members. Surpassing the worth of any product, intellectual property, or promise.

The club is the killer feature! This was more widely recognized at the start of the last bull market. However, it became a competition of grandiose promises. Feeding into short-term, unrealistic roadmaps that not only attract more selfish, speculative participants but also come at the expense of eroding the base of genuine members.

Humanity's future will be digitally tribal. As we embrace an increasingly digital existence, augmented by advancements in AI, the demand for genuine, quality relationships will intensify. The NFT community, empowered by crypto, is the perfect platform to serve this. This is the mainstream use case everyone is looking for.

In 2024, I am going to be evaluating projects more from this perspective. I am convinced that the most significant successes will stem from projects that focus on building and nurturing community culture. Those where the KPIs align with building a strong community. Those that are empowering and supporting their members. Those with a clear identity of what the community represents.

To financially driven speculators, this approach may seem dull, lacking the 'greater fool' narrative. However, over a span of years, these communities are poised to become unstoppable forces. The desire to be part of them will far surpass today's demand for gambling on speculative promises.

If you are a team member or community leader, I encourage you to spend some time thinking about this. Imagine the power if you just focused on building a tribe without the distraction of continually promising the next financial driver.

For existing projects, a reset will be painful, expect a FUD tsunami with a lot of turnover. But it will be on your narrative and continuing down an unsustainable path won't.

Those teams that have an aspiration to build products, I encourage you to instead view your community as an incubator, fostering a culture of builders. I bet you have at least one community member with ideas better than you. Support them, not yourselves.

Spend time building your soil and planting when everyone else is chopping down their forests.

Some thoughts on this hack.

1) Millions of dollars of NFTs were stolen. I've never seen anything of this size. Some of the absolute top apes -- a few worth $300k+ -- were taken.

2) It appears to have hit people who did trades on NFT Trader in the past and still had permissions on the given wallets.

3) This means mainly BAYC, MAYC, WoW and older high value assets. Blur, x2y2, OpenSea swap are now the common vehicles for swaps.

4) The hacker started 4 hours ago and took a couple apes and then sold one. Then kept going.

5) The theft is continuing. Two more mutants were just stolen.

6) Revoking access to NFT Trader appears to be imperative at this time.

7) Truly tragic. Truly heartbreaking.

We have launched a channel in @proof_xyz for the NFT Countdown show which I am going to create every Monday & Wednesday (for the next month).

Anyone with a Moonbird, Odditie, Mythic, Collective Pass can join.

This will be an experiment and we will see how it goes!

Hopefully we'll have lots of chat about each show as well.

The show is a great forcing function for me to stay on top of all the latest. At the same time, waking up at 4:45am everyday was getting harder to sustain. The Mon/Wed cadence is a nice medium.

Hopefully the PROOF community gets value out of the show and keeps giving back value via all the commentary.
