Yesterday I was honored to receive the Gold Medal for Outstanding Contribution to Public Discourse from @TheHist of Trinity College, the oldest student society. The recognition belongs to the human rights defenders who I have the privilege to work with over last 35 years. It serves as an acknowledgement of the importance of human rights issues in China. Past recipients include Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Patti Smith, Margaret Atwood, President Michael D. Higgins.
The event was attended by about 50 students and faculty on the first day of new school year. They asked many insightful and timely questions, making the experience even more meaningful. I appreciated the opportunity to share my life experiences, from Tiananmen Square to present day.I was especially encouraged by a few Chinese students who listened attentively.
@ZhouFengSuo, human rights activist and student leader of the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests, will be coming to the Hist to accept a Gold Medal for his contributions to the fight for democracy.
Come along to hear his address and Q&A on Monday at 4pm in the GMB!
I am honored to be a speaker at The Hist @TheHist of Trinity College in Dublin Ireland in the coming Monday of Sep 9. Officially the oldest student society, The Hist was founded in 1770, inspired by the great pophilosopher Edmond Burke.

There have been calls from right-wing Zionist agitators to 'depoliticise' the @tcdsu. At the joint @tcdphil@TheHist debate from February 2024, I spoke in favour of our radical, political and left-wing @tcdsu, which is representative of students.
