On Juneteenth, we commemorate the anniversary of the delayed but welcome news of freedom reaching the enslaved Black folks in Galveston, Texas. It’s a reminder that even in the darkest hours, there is cause to hope — and a reason to keep building a country that lives up to its highest ideals.
I can still hear my dad’s voice: “Joey, remember, family is the beginning, the middle, and the end.”
He taught me about dignity, respect, and always reminded me that nobody’s better than you, but everybody’s your equal. I hold his words close every day.
Happy Father's Day.
Dear Republicans,
If you don’t like a trans woman being featured on a can of Bud Light, don’t drink Bud Light.
If an M&M in sneakers offends you, don’t eat M&Ms. If Cracker Jill hurts your feelings, don’t eat that stuff either.
If you don’t like the fact that Target sells LGBTQ+ merchandise, don’t shop there.
And if Amanda Gorman’s famous poem, “The Hill We Climb” upsets you, then don’t read it.
The point is that no one is forcing you to do any of that shit. But YOU don’t get to decide if the rest of us can.
We must bring integrity back to the Supreme Court.
I’m introducing the Justice is BLIND Act to ensure all judges make decisions based on the law, not their pocketbooks.
By placing judges' investments in blind trusts and stopping trading, we will better avoid potential conflicts of interest.
I'm sorry, but I've gotta say this. I'm not trying to be racist or ageist (I'm old). I'm tired of seeing old white men, stuck in their ways in Congress or in politics period. We need new progressive blood.
