🌍 Gaza War Generated 33.2 Million Tonnes of Carbon Emissions — More Than 102 Countries Emit in a Year

🔸A peer-reviewed study published in the journal One Earth by researchers at Queen Mary University of London and Lancaster University found that Israel’s war on Gaza has generated 33.2 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent — more than the annual emissions of 102 individual countries.

🔸A joint statement from the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics and the Environmental Quality Authority, released for World Environment Day via WAFA, warns that Gaza is facing an environmental catastrophe. It notes:

▪️ Carbon emissions:
Direct combat emissions — artillery, rockets, military hardware — exceeded 1.3 million tonnes. The bulk of emissions, however, come from anticipated reconstruction: rebuilding Gaza’s destroyed homes and infrastructure alone is projected to account for nearly 30 million tonnes, given that ~66% of Gaza’s buildings have been damaged or destroyed.

▪️ Infrastructure collapse:
More than 90% of Gaza’s wastewater infrastructure has been destroyed, price of water has risen seven-fold, while around 710,000 tonnes of household waste have accumulated across the Strip.

▪️ Rubble and housing:
More than 60 million tonnes of debris now cover Gaza following the destruction of over 330,000 housing units.

▪️ Agricultural devastation:
A recent UNOSAT assessment found that 86% of Gaza’s agricultural land had been damaged or destroyed by the end of June 2025, rising to 94% in northern Gaza.

▪️ West Bank:
The agencies also reported a rise in Israeli environmental violations in the occupied West Bank, with 685 incidents recorded in 2025, up from **535 in 2024

“As Celtic fans, we oppose the proposed appointment of Robbie Keane as manager of Celtic Football Club.

Celtic supporters have a long and proud history of solidarity with the Palestinian people. For us, Robbie Keane’s decision to manage Maccabi Tel Aviv during the genocide in Gaza is impossible to ignore.
