@nyquil_dreamer@douglassmackey Voters care when there are constant shutdowns and they almost always blame the President for it. They want their welfare checks to land early and often. "The Economy" for at least a third of the electorate is just when the Government gives them money.
@punished_casa I think the rule of "you can be a kook on one issue only" holds true. We could have gotten away with any one of the Iran War, the ICE "operations" debacle, DOGE cuts etc. But not all of them.
@HowlingBurger@_Apollosol I almost want Rubio to run just to keep it close, and then have Vance give it a go in 2032. I don't even know. Totally in the doldrums myself right now.
@alt_ccc Cool, Republicans deserve this. But how do you imagine that the GOP changes in the next two years positively? Trump is still in office! The person people just voted against will still be there. What do we have to run on?
@TYsoVM@GrantMa25066011 I don't even disagree that tabletop issues are important, but do you really think that we're going to do anything productive in the next two years towards that with Democrat control of Congress? We'll be lucky to fund the federal government.
@NLConservadem@alt_ccc Excellent idea, we ditch Trump and his candidates for... who, exactly? It's not like we have a moderate Republican wing waiting around. They all got replaced over the past decade.
@wiz_political How do we even adjust our platform in time for 2028? 2030? Democrats add PR and DC as states, expand the court, open and expand migration of all sorts. Permanent left victory here. Wow.
@GrantMa25066011 What can we even do to salvage the party? Candidate quality doesn't seem to making an impact at all. Go back to Romney-esque policies? I'm so lost.
