@brianonhere It would be political suicide to triple property taxes for suburban residents since that's now such a predominant housing arrangement, so cities need more cash, so...... They approve more suburbs lol. According to StrongTowns almost every suburb on the continent is a tax burden
@brianonhere The city will get a decent amount of money upfront from the developers buying the land and permitting or whatever, but by the time the roads need to be repaved, the property taxes are nowhere near enough to pay for the suburb's amenities and maintenance of infrastructure.
@FemShepFGC You say this like you couldn't put out a call for people to submit their gamertags to you, pick the ones you like best/fit characters, then seek their permission to use it for a character in your novel. Who wouldn't want to be mentioned in a Special Acknowledgements for that?
@wtyppod However, if they live in Irvingland, if The Oatmeal Incident was between April 2014 and April 2015, that particular province did waive the $130 fee for non-insured residents... for a year I guess. The fast clawback makes one wonder if any Irvings had stakes in ambulance fees...
@wtyppod For Justin's interest, the poor person from the safety third may have taken a cab to the hospital as ambulance fees are not mandated to be a part of provincial health coverage. Granted Canadians surely pay far less than yanks but the subsidy varies by province and situation.
@tohickontpain Boozhoo Tom, Ojibwe listener to this episode, and, if anything, it's Henry Wadsworth Longfellow who should be apologizing for butchering the name Gche Gami so badly, not you. Miigwech for reading
@agraybee Exonyms aren't "fake," they're just kinda often paternalistic and even kinda internally condescending. I resent the person who intended the term India when most people would be just as capable of saying Bharat or Deutschland or Zhongguo at least sort of accurately
@sickfootfour My friend who got an orchi specifically requested to keep them and they gave them to her in a jar in some kind of embalming fluid or whatever.
