This is an extremely concerning practice in Parliament that has somehow been normalised!
How can legislation of such institutional importance be passed in barely 2 to 3 minutes? If Parliament will not debate how good or bad a Bill is, scrutinise its safeguards, question its consequences, and demand answers from the government that is making it, then what exactly is Parliament for ? This National Tribunals Commission will have a role in appointments to important tribunals dealing with matters ranging from taxation, protecting honest officers, to the environment. Yet there was NO parliamentary discussion on the architecture being created, the people who will exercise these powers, or the safeguards necessary to protect the integrity and independence of the process. And that’s exactly the problem. Tomorrow, when appointments made through this system come under scrutiny, a question mark will inevitably hang over this selection commission itself because Parliament did not scrutinise the system that it produced.
This is not just about this one Bill. This is about the frightening normalisation of legislation without deliberation!
And then we wonder why our institutions fail us. Why paper leaks remain unresolved, why environmental crises worsen, why pollution becomes an everyday catastrophe, and why accountability disappears.
People harping on about “good governance” must know that it does not begin after a law is passed but begins with HOW that law is made!

A moving and powerful article by Sonia Gandhi ji on the extraordinary legacy of Dr Manmohan Singh in today’s @IndianExpress .
She writes about one of the most egregious habits of the current government: “Dr Singh's record of integrity and accountability stands in stark contrast to how the Narendra Modi government has operated, so clearly and grossly misusing agencies designed to investigate crime and corruption like the ED and the CBI. Its purpose has been to exert pressure on politicians. Leaders are either silenced through coercion or cynically folded into the BJP or, in some remarkable instances, rewarded with ministerial positions as well. When credible accusations of corruption emerge, the Modi government simply brushes them aside. Corrupt when you're in the Opposition, suddenly clean when you jump ship!”
“The mischievous and indefensible allegations against his integrity have been exposed as hollow, and his record as Prime Minister is increasingly being recognised for what it was: a period of decisive economic, political, and social advancement in Indian history.
History will indeed remember Dr. Manmohan Singh kindly as a quiet, gentle but a most consequential Prime Minister.”
Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Smt Sonia Gandhi ji.

On 8 August 1942, the Quit India resolution was passed at Gowalia Tank. The next morning, with the leaders already under arrest, it was Aruna Asaf Ali who climbed up and raised the tricolour over the maidan.
Within days the newspapers were censored and the country went dark. Into that silence, a 22-year-old student leaned into a microphone in a rented flat: "This is the Congress Radio calling on 42.34 metres, from somewhere in India."
Her name was Usha Mehta. She opened every broadcast with Sare Jahan Se Achha (a song the government had banned) and read out the news the Raj was working to bury.
For close to three months she carried a hidden transmitter from flat to flat — Chowpatty, Walkeshwar, Girgaon — a step ahead of British detector vans.
Then she was betrayed, arrested, and sent to Yerawada for four years. She gave up no one.
This week's column is about her, and about the women of the August Kranti who never waited for permission to resist.

Actor Shilpa Shetty’s husband Raj Kundra has advised Indian youth to stay away from excessive Western influence and preserve our culture. Lol.
Coming from a man who has faced serious allegations related to pornography and even spent 63 days in jail, lectures on culture and morality are difficult to take seriously.
It’s like an arsonist conducting a fire safety workshop. The irony writes itself.

#Important: Here is our agenda.
This September, the Cockroach Janta Party begins its ‘Kya Bolti Public’ listening tour. We are taking this movement to the grassroots to listen. We want to hear the aspirations, anxieties, and ideas of India’s young generation and the together work towards building a brighter future.
Education reform and unemployment remain at the very top of our priorities. We will also relentlessly push for institutional accountability because a democracy cannot function when institutions stop being accountable for their (in)actions. A big question mark surrounds the integrity of the Election Commission, the judiciary, and the media. The three’s accountability MUST be restored.
We also seek to bring together the countless movements, organisations, and citizens already fighting for justice on different fronts. No single organisation can transform a nation alone. Our greatest strength lies in unity.
Every person who cares about India’s future is already a leader. If you believe in democracy, accountability, constitutional values, and a better future for the youth, come build this movement with us. Join us: https://t.co/QgEB147oE7
Many of you have asked us to become a political party. We are deeply grateful for that faith. But at this moment, our energy is better spent where change truly begins: among the people! Existing parties are being broken up using money, ED, CBI, etc. Those in government are also now deciding who can vote and who can’t. They are choosing which elected MP will be in which party. So our immediate mission is grassroots mobilisation, democratic reforms, and mass public awakening.
For now, we remain a people’s pressure group. And we are only getting started.

Seven years ago this day, a Constitutional outrage was perpetrated splitting the State of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories
The story did not end there
The question whether a State can be divided and reduced to UTs was raised before the Hon'ble Supreme Court, but the Court declined to decide that question on the ground that the Government had assured the Court that Statehood will be soon restored
How soon is 'soon'?
That sword -- power of the Government to break up a State into UTs -- still hangs over the States of India. And the important Constitutional question has not been decided by the SC
Bankipur Update-
Prashant Kishor leading by 2400 votes after 5 rounds.
26 rounds pending but game is most probably over for BJP as 3rd and 4th round were its strongholds.
