This staggering increase includes the recent 65-cent gas price hike, mandates to withhold gasoline supply from the market, and refinery closures caused by overregulation.

For the average Californian driving a gas-powered car, these costly policies will require an additional $600–$1,000 in pre-tax income just to break even.

A new regulation pushed by the Newsom Administration is expected to increase gas prices by 65 cents in 2025. Despite crippling affordability in California, the Administration pushed through the gas price hike without a care in the world about what it will do to financially struggling families.

According to a new study from USC’s Marshall School of Business, the average Californian driving a gas car will need to earn an additional $600-$1,000 in pre-tax income to “break even” with increasing gas prices due to costly regulations.
