Things I wish I could tell myself at 20:
1. Just because you can doesn't mean you should.
You're an adult. You can say what you want. Think what you want. Hang out with who you want. Choose wisely.
Hyper-cessationists don't get that Paul himself couldn’t heal on demand.
He was half-blind in Galatia; was grieved at Epaphroditus' sickness despite his prayers; & prescribed a natural remedy for Timothy's stomach problems.
The gift is sovereignly distributed for certain situations, not on perpetual loan.
‘Neo-Pagans have sometimes forgotten; when they set out to do everything that the old pagans did, that the final thing the old pagans did was to get Christened.’
[GK Chesterton]
@HambrickScott The loss of key infrastructural knowledge is the number one threat facing an advanced civilization. Definitely want to see these recommendations!
Progressive “Christians”: “We are a meme of Christianity to fit the culture!”
Alt-Right “Christians”: “We are a meme of Christianity to fight the culture!”
Y’all are the same.
At least the progressives are motivated by greed not just spite.
One of the best things a Christian can do is intentionally escape his doctrinal bubble from time to time. Your tribe is not the only sect of “true” Christianity out there.
@MikeWingerii "Happy Wife Happy Life" narrative of marriage - super condescending towards women. A man who respects his wife and cares will talk through issues. To behave otherwise sets your wife up to feel unreasonable in each argument. She will think "Why doesn't he care?"
I understand the joke, I have heard it in various forms my whole life. It turns out that it isn’t just a joke , since a lot of people do this and joke about it, rather than joking about it and NOT doing it.
And there is something profoundly unwise about this. It treats women like spoiled children, men like powerless employees, and disregards truth. There are plenty of healthy tools to use in marriage to work through disagreement. This isn’t one of them.
I mourn and grieve that our ministers are so much diluting the Word of God with philosophy, desiring to be intellectual preachers, delivering model sermons well fitted for a room full of college students and professors of theology, but of no use to the masses, being destitute of simplicity, warmth, earnestness, or even solid gospel matter. -Spurgeon
What won't fix the world: Anger and indignation.
What will fix the world: Prayerful obedience.
The devil fears your prayer, he does not fear your worry, your hatred, or your anxiety.
Do what scares the devil.
We have a crisis of father abandonment because the church has abandoned fathers.
My heart breaks to see the “Andrew Tate Christianity” that has risen up to fill the void, as young men increasingly suffer in silence.
The spiritual state of manhood brings mourning to my soul.
I don’t like this take. The lack of male engagement w/ church has nothing to do with boredom or moral deficiencies. Men don’t go to church because church is increasingly relegating them to abandonment. Strength is shamed. Bravery is bashed.
Functioning men are ignored in church.
If these men went to church they could influence it to change and tweak parts they don’t like.
The real answer is “I’d rather do other things”
And we all know it.
