A woman shouldn't be able to intentionally kill her own child - born or unborn.
Bad analogy, pregnancy isn't a parent being compelled to donate a body part to an already separate child. The fetus is the parent's own dependent child, created through the parents' actions, and pregnancy is the natural means by which that child is raised until birth. Parental duties don't generally require surrendering organs, but they do require providing ordinary life sustaining care. So the question isn't whether parents lose bodily autonomy at conception; it's whether bodily autonomy includes a right to intentionally kill one's own dependent child. Those are different claims.
Too many anti abortion supporters, homophobic, transphobic and Islamophobic individuals. Shit is getting scary day by day. That pink flower party hasn't bloomed yet in tn, but their ideology is already everywhere 🥲🥲
1. A fetus relying on a host body doesn't negate the pregnant person's rights.
2. We don't force anyone to donate blood or organs to save a life.
3. Forcing pregnancy gives a fetus rights no born human has: unconsented use of another's body.
4. A fetus ≠ baby
Sorry but if you’re going to preach that abortion is “murder” and every pregnancy must result in a child being born, then please be the flag-bearer for those children too. Support them. Provide for them. Don’t just demand birth and walk away.
The audacity of some men to comment on a woman’s body like they’re judges at a beauty pageant 😭 Just look at yourself, man. Balding, white hair, belly, no muscles, too skinny, too short, weird face card, ugly and yet somehow you expect women to be slim, pretty, flawless and camera-ready 24/7. And the funny thing is, most of us have enough decency NOT to point out every physical insecurity someone has.
Why are people so obsessed with women’s appearance?
Let people exist without treating their bodies like public property.
Religion was invented by humans (men) so that they can oppress women.
> Hinduism restricts women to enter during periods.
> Islam restricts women to the mosques.
> Christians don't allow women to become priests.
All these rituals should stop and women should be allowed to do whatever a man can do.
Yesterday’s “anti-abortion” march and FM Marie Wilson’s antics in the House reinforces one thing - every religion has liberals and hardline conservatives.
Right wingers are not limited to any religion. There are extreme right wingers in Christianity too.
If you’re a liberal, and believe that in a liberal democracy, constitutional values should supersede religious doctrines, it is your duty to call out regressive thoughts, no matter where they emanate from.
Just like how the Hindu right wing is using one of the most tolerant & accepting religions to justify its angry, aggressive political stance, the Christian right wing turns Jesus’ message of love and peace into something it is not. If you listen to some of the right wingers in America, you’ll wonder if they’re reading the same Bible. Quoting Jesus and justifying wars!
Which is why the writings of Thanthai Periyar on the subject are incredible - he advocated for sexual autonomy & choice - in both marriage and pregnancy - a 100 years ago.
I urge Millennials, GenZ and feminists (particularly from outside Tamil Nadu) to read this book “Why were women enslaved” - a compilation of 10 essays written by Thanthai Periyar about how society takes away choice from women on marriage, sex and reproduction as part of its misogynistic oppression of women.
Millenials, GenZ & feminists will find that their aspirations align with the progressive and liberal Dravidian ideology!
Periyar was the first supporter of DINK! 🙃

Yesterday marked 55 years of Medical Termination of Pregnancy which legalised abortion in India. A 2015 research paper published in Lancet journal estimated 1.56 crore abortions happened in 2015.
