I'm Smoolio, and I draw🫡
For now, mostly here to document Nolan's Odyssey bubble bursting in real time for video reasons. I may post art now and then, though!
@Smellybean23317@djentilom@Notethosejokes To engage with ancient frameworks of sexuality dynamics (he coerced to sleep with her) is merely an example of modern conceptions of fidelity being projected back onto a myth thag predates it all, and retroactively weakening it, Calypso to an even worse degree.
3/3 I'm done lol
@Smellybean23317@djentilom@Notethosejokes The "Open Arms VS Ruthlessness" is a deeply modern (and kinda dumb) projection of contemporary morals onto a very different time, which if you're passionate about the musical as I am can cause some very harsh dissonance at times.
I would argue that the narrative's refusal

@Smellybean23317@djentilom@Notethosejokes Oh sure! Btw, I'm not saying that in a denigrating way per se, my gripe is merely that is would be woefully misaligned with the moral framework of the time.
When I said the "moral core" is liberal, maybe a better word would have been "contemporary"
The morality quandery,

@TheAndrewBriggs I'm not typically the pedantic sort, but this movie was horrible to me.
Maybe my expectations were too high, but there were so many moments where Nolan OBVIOUSLY misunderstands/misinterpreting the meaning of the story, or outright shoehorns in his own desired message
@Smellybean23317@djentilom@Notethosejokes Mmm you do have a point, but I would say it is much more Hamilton-adjacent.
The best friend dies almost immediately. Athena and Odysseus fall out immediately after that.
The most egregious sin of the musical is its moral core being that of 2024 median liberal politics lol
@Notethosejokes Hoooooly shit what a wild thing to come across on my timeline damn
I gotta tell Mircsy to make an account here finally, the animatic is hers!
Also EPIC itself, while deeply flawed, is a masterpiece next to Nolan's Odyssey. Like genuinely the difference cannot be overstated lmfao
