🇬🇧 Russian hackers blamed for largest cyberattack in UK history, — The New York Times

A cyberattack on the computer systems of British automaker Jaguar Land Rover, which occurred in late August 2025, slowed production in the United Kingdom in the third quarter, causing losses of $2.5 billion to the British economy. The attack itself cost the company $350 million.

The cyberattack seemed like a strange operation: no one demanded a ransom from Jaguar or took responsibility. However, the investigation showed that Russian hackers were behind it.

Enkele weetjes gehoord de laatste weken over Microsoft op het werk.

Verdeler liet weten dat Microsoft de prijs van zijn ERP-software binnen enkele maanden met 10% zal optrekken. Zoals het quasi ieder jaar doet.

Op een meeting van IT-managers van middelgrote boekhoudkantoren was de consensus dat iedereen zijn collega's zou toegang geven tot Microsoft Copilot. Dit ondanks dat het een inferieur product is versus Claude. Maar de privacy belofte van Microsoft, servers binnen Europa wegen binnen onze sector dus meer door dan productkwaliteit. Dit nekt ook heel veel beloftevolle AI-tools, die dit niet kunnen garanderen en zo niet doorbreken.

Vibecoden of met AI zelf tools maken breekt ook niet snel door. Een tool is snel gemaakt, maar testen, uitrollen, opleiden en onderhouden daarentegen duurt veel langer. En dat is ook onze core business niet. Om software te verslaan op grote schaal moet je zelf deels een softwarebedrijf worden. Dat is voor velen een brug te ver en dus houden ze het op aangekochte standaardsoftware.

De moats van Microsoft lijken dus op basis van wat ik hoor in de sector nog best intact.

From a very credible Labour source:

- Wes Streeting promised the Chancellorship for not running.

- Capital gains raised to match income tax. Possible exit tax.

- Economic focus: devolution, plus state ownership of cost-of-living essentials (energy, water, transport).

- Nothing on AI or tech, bar higher capital gains and an EIS/SEIS-style relief for backing British businesses. (Spoiler: startups now incorporate in Delaware and raise on SAFEs. I’ve done 60+ angel investments; only two were eligible.)

Andy and Wes don’t seem to grasp that tech has been the core engine of growth for 20 years, and AI will only accelerate that.

So why would any founder build here? How does the UK compete with the US and China on AI? Where does growth actually come from?

The world economy is changing fast, and we need to be ready to thrive in it, not just survive.

I really hope this admin appoints some figures who actually get what’s happening. Losing business support early, from a disastrous first budget, was the beginning of the end for Starmer.
