The Faroese government has issued a rare defence of whale hunting after it drew international outrage when the Daily Express highlighted the slaughter of 77 animals.
Sickened British tourists on a cruise ship witnessed the “sea turn red” as the pilot whales were killed.
I’m officially a qualified @ORCA_web#OceanConservationist! Had a fun week onboard an Expedition Cruise learning how to be an OC, creating fun activities and presenting a lecture on Pilot Whales. I now feel ready to go out and be an official OC on my next cruise in 2 weeks!
Thank you to everyone who has supported me and @Bluemarinef@ResilientReefs and @ProfCallum and Julie for giving me the opportunity to work on a project I have truly loved 🦞🐚🪸
It’s taken 5 months longer than intended but I’m thrilled to say that I have finally submitted my dissertation for my masters in Marine Environmental Management 🥳
2022 was such a difficult year for me but I’m pleased I was able to persevere and complete this masters in a topic I’m so interested and passionate about.
I have loved every second of my dissertation, despite the difficulties I have had encountered
I found a turtle on Perranporth beach this morning - I think it’s a Loggerhead. I tried to get it back in the sea but to no avail. Luckily it was quickly rescued and I believe is on it’s way to Newquay aquarium- hopefully they’ll be able to release it. @CwallWildlife
The 5th theme of #MMSS2022, Fisheries & Management! Presentations include research focused on marine resources from a fishery perspective, as well as sustainable use and resource protection.
Thrilled to have my masters thesis presented at @MMRI_Maldives Marine Science Symposium! Such an amazing opportunity, thank you to @ResilientReefs and @Bluemarinef for allowing me to study such an interesting topic @MarineEnvManMSc @ExeterMarine
@RadioX@tobytarrant Please could you play Monkey Wrench by Foo Fighters. Me and my mum are working in the back garden in the sun with your show playing and I would love if you could play our song #requesthour
This story gives me hope that working collaboratively with local communities is the correct way to research and protect fish. A fisherman caught an enormous stingray, the first thing he did? Call a nearby research team #giantstingray#freshwaterstingray https://t.co/fHh5kQYtDT
This was my first experience of coral reefs and the staff of @MaRHECenter were amazing at pointing out so many interesting features. I learned so much from just 10 days in #FaafuAtoll and it is an experience that will stay with me for life 🪸🐠🐙🦈
Some photos of some of the snorkels I did while @MaRHECenter for my field trip. While the snorkels were very enjoyable we got to experience completing different fish and coral survey methods using transects and quadrats
Enjoyed my first two days here in Laamu. Already managed to get a snorkelling trip in! I’m so excited to get started with my project #gleaning#seagrass#healthyseas
The difference between two reefs visited in our #Maldives field course.
The 1st is an area decimated by the 2016 bleaching event, where we used quadrats to quantify live coral cover. The 2nd is from a vibrant reef that has bounced back to its former beauty. @ExeterMarine
