Fellow citizens,
The Safari Rally stays home.
I am delighted to confirm that Kenya will host the WRC Safari Rally in 2027. Once again, the world's finest drivers will take on our plains, our valleys and the legendary roads of Naivasha.
The Safari was born on Kenyan soil. It belongs on Kenyan soil. Every edition fills our hotels, energises our businesses and carries the beauty of our country to screens across the world.
I thank the Ministry of Sports, the WRC Safari Rally Project, our private-sector partners, the FIA and the WRC Promoter for making this possible.
Tutaonana Naivasha!
As Kenya confirms its first case of Ebola, it’s important to point out that it can be contained without spreading locally. As a former health correspondent, I covered Ebola in Liberia, Sierra Leone, Mali, Uganda and in the DRC. Kenya has several things to its advantage:
I am saddened by the death of a patient with Ebola in Kenya.
The individual became ill while in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and travelled through Uganda before arriving in Kenya seeking care.
I thank the Government of Kenya for its transparency and for promptly sharing information about this imported case. This is International Health Regulations (IHR) at work. Kenya's health authorities rapidly detected, isolated, and managed the patient in line with WHO recommendations.
A few weeks ago, France also managed an imported Ebola case involving a French physician who had been working in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. Such cases demonstrate that imported infections can occur in an interconnected world and that strong surveillance and response systems are essential.
All identified contacts in Kenya are under close monitoring, and a safe and dignified burial will be conducted according to established public health protocols.
It is important to distinguish between an imported case and an outbreak. An imported case occurs when an infected individual enters a country from elsewhere. An outbreak would require ongoing local transmission within the country, which, at this stage, has not occurred in Kenya.
My condolences go to the family of the deceased, and my appreciation to the health workers, the Government of Kenya, and partners responding to this situation.
I spoke with the Kenyan authorities following confirmation of the country’s first imported case of Bundibugyo Ebola and expressed my condolences to the family and loved ones of the patient.
Kenya acted quickly. Africa CDC is supporting the national response, and our team is deploying to work alongside the authorities.
This case is another reminder of the importance of vigilance across our borders. We must strengthen surveillance, follow every contact, share information rapidly and work closely with communities. We will only control this outbreak when the final chain of transmission has been interrupted.

Kenya and the European Union share a strong, long standing partnership that has grown steadily over the years, making the EU our largest export market.
Through constant consultations, we are exploring ways of maximising the opportunities under the EU-Kenya Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA), which entered into force in July 2024, to secure duty-free, quota-free access for Kenyan products in the EU market.
Our goal is to expand global markets for our farmers, entrepreneurs and industries, increasing earnings, creating jobs and delivering tangible economic and social gains for Kenyans.
Held talks with European Union Ambassador to Kenya Henriette Geiger, State House Nairobi.
