I am not young, and I have zero memories of a secdef/secwar ever doing PT with active duty soldiers. It's not an age, or a dignity issue, it is a message to warfighters that they were not one of them. Pete Hegseth, for good or for ill, is one who would don the uniform again to fight alongside the men he commands. That isn't cringe, that isn't shameful, that is the definition of leadership. A leader should always be willing to follow his own commands and lead by example. They should also set the example, as a marine she should know officers are first to rise, last to go to bed, be last in line for chow, and put the needs of their soldiers first before their own. Anyone criticizing a leader doing what a leader should do, is not fit for command themselves.
