I find it so disturbing that applicants are concerned about not having publications when applying to graduate school and that some schools weigh this criteria heavily. This inadvertently penalizes talented scientists from circumstances that don’t align with publishing.

As the unfolding ecocide becomes more evident it just seems as though many of us are doubling down on our destructive lifestyles.
It's the result of not having a cohesive culture in place that encourages rationing/sharing/minimalism, nor promotes sacrificing for the greater good.

Implying that people who wear masks do so because they are anxious about catching Covid is like saying people who look both ways before crossing the street are anxious about getting hit. For those who know the dangers of Covid it is as natural and automatic as putting on a coat.

Yes, and usually the "givers" are the women, who experience no reward when they give and backlash when they don't.

What’s become apparent in the last few years to me, is that a lot of people find the idea that they should have a responsibility and obligation to other people around them, highly oppressive. It’s a level of egocentrism that even children would be admonished for.

So, to each of you (and as a reminder to myself) I say this:

• ALL BODIES ARE BEAUTIFUL BODIES

• YOUR BODY IS AN INSTRUMENT, NOT AN ORNAMENT

• BEFORE YOU COMMENT ON SOMEONE'S OUTSIDE, CONSIDER YOUR INSIDE

• COMPARISON IS THE THIEF OF JOY

Let's be kind to each other.
