I’m going to jump on my soap box for a moment… People are continuing to put winning culture ahead of development culture in youth sports and it continues to grind my gears. Sacrificing any professionally executed development of the athlete & the person in order to chase a plastic trophy. I hope these people realize that the constant pursuit puts added stress both physically & mentally on athletes that are underdeveloped in both regards. Selling out for wins at young levels tend to result in massive spikes in acute loading of weak tissues, with no regard for proper chronic workload build up over an elongated period of time prior to competition, nor targeted strength gains in any regard to stress shield from these loads. Leading to giant spikes in injuries among youth athletes. Not to mention the added pressure and stress, psychologically, on underdeveloped kids who unfortunately learn that sports aren’t fun, they don’t teach me anything, they’re just anxiety filled games that demand perfection from the age of 10. Athletes in these programs run by incompetent, unprofessional, and what I would consider adults participating in coaching malpractice are leading kids to either break physically or mentally & either way lose the love for the game. I can’t believe these people still exist in youth sports and that there are parents out there taking their kids to them to willingly participate. It really, really bothers me.
