On this day in 1969, Apollo 11 entered lunar orbit and the crew got a close-up look at the Sea of Tranquility, where Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin would land in lunar module Eagle the next day.
Early this morning, soldiers from the 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (@USArmyOldGuard) carried out the longstanding tradition of “Flags In” at Arlington National Cemetery and the U.S. Soldiers’ and Airmen’s Home National Cemetery.

55 years ago today, the #Apollo11 astronauts splashed down in the Pacific Ocean, fulfilling the second half of JFK's Moonshot: "...and returning him safely to the Earth."
#OTD in 1968, LTJG Clyde Lassen flew his UH-2A Seasprite deep inside North Vietnam at night and rescued two downed naval aviators despite facing anti-aircraft fire, dense tree cover and limited illumination. When he completed the mission by safely landing on USS Jouett, he only had 5 minutes of fuel left. Lassen was the only Navy helicopter pilot awarded the Medal of Honor during the Vietnam War..
