Took a break from the trolls and the dysfunctional landlord
To see how it felt
I missed the good conversations - and enjoyed my days more without the misinformation and amorphous rage
Off to find a better party. Hope to see good friends there

A recent @washingtonpost opinion piece speculated that COVID-19 deaths are over-counted.
Our new @ConversationUS article explains why this piece is flawed.
COVID-19 deaths are not overcounted; most evidence indicates they are undercounted.

We’ve all wondered why scientists or MDs “turn”. How respected folk can find themselves deep in the anti-vax community.
It’s a decidedly simple (but dangerous and malicious) process.
Below is a thread on how people become “red pilled.” 🧵

COVID deaths are NOT being overcounted.
We're UNDERcounting. Still.
My friend/colleague @jeremyfaust does a great job of analyzing the data & debunking this claim:

The REAL question is whether you/we think those deaths matter.
And maybe you/we don't.
Yesterday in clinic we saw our one of our older patients living with HIV for 30 + years who just had their first great, great grandchild. Seriously, who would have dreamed that up 30 years ago.
@LudwigLin This is such an important point
Most adults know when it’s time to have a conversation in private, or 1:1, because things are going off the rails
Here, the intrinsic superficiality of the medium fuels conflict that we blame too often on folks with whom we could agree in 3D
One prominent doc (@DrLeanaWen) says incidental COVID diagnoses cause overestimation of the "still unacceptably high" mortality of COVID-19
Another (@jeremyfaust) says we likely *miss* some deadly COVID consequences
How can both be true?
