@13milepost It’s Mount Gahinga, which is an extinct volcano in the Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. The name on 6706 has therefore got the two muddled. I believe LSL did realise this, but only after it had been beautifully painted by hand, so they’ve just rolled with it (pun intended)!
@HelenRe07161271@BBCBreaking The quoted cap is for the prescription fee ONLY. You still need to pay for the meds separately. It’s a very misleading headline.
@jmeweston@BBCBreaking Vets legally cannot prescribe the human eye drops that cost a few quid at the chemist if theres an animal version available (“cascade” laws for animal medications in the UK). The manufacturers know this and charge 3/4x more for the exact same drops in animal packaging.
@alisonmcilroy2@BBCBreaking Spot on, Alison. In a large dog you’d be looking about a fifth of this cost for bilateral hip replacement using much the same skills, equipment and expertise - yet people will be frantically typing away on their keyboards saying the £15,000 op was “extortionate”…
@sassycassyL@pjn151@BBCBreaking@BBCNews Vet practices can legally ONLY buy meds from licensed wholesalers. Online pharmacies can buy direct from manufacturer. Vets have to pay a lot more to buy the likes of Metacam in from their wholesaler than it costs online. The practice’s mark-ups are much less than you’d think!
@Kezza_147@m40282845@B_Disappointed@SkyNews …if the CMA really wanted to do something to help reduce the cost of meds they’d have recommended removing the “cascade” and stop drug manufacturers inflating prices 3/4x for the exact same meds but in the animal packaging.
@Kezza_147@m40282845@B_Disappointed@SkyNews This is something called the “cascade”. Vets are legally not allowed to prescribe a human medicine when there’s an animal version available - even when it’s exactly the same drug in different packaging. The manufacturers know this and charge much more for the animal versions 1/2
@trainfanmatt@BrianNe08342467 0Z45 18:30 Kidderminster SVR to Crewe Holding Sidings on 21/07/2020, where they stayed the night at @LocoServicesGrp before going on to the ELR the next day as 0Z46. 40145 had been at Barrow Hill for repairs / bogie work and picked up 40106 on its way home.
@ChimeWhistle The email from JS (if you’ve seen the full text rather than secondhand paraphrasing) states “…rest assured I remain in charge over the coming year…” - i.e. he’s not “stepped down from GBRf” nor is he “remaining in a different capacity”. More announcing his retirement in 2027.
