“House of Troy” Episode 5 profiles Brian Kennedy, a big-time USC booster, and details how he wielded influence at the school, including trying to get Ed Orgeron hired as coach. The Booster and the Bulldog out now, from @RyanKartje and the @latimes: https://t.co/DuOPmYKHIu

There's no new #HouseOfTroy episode today, on account of my brief battle with stomach ulcers the past couple of weeks.

But we'll be back next Tuesday, Oct. 27, when Chapter 5 of our @latimes podcast series drops.

I think you're going to enjoy it.

Congrats to @peter_king on the launch of his new book, “The Game.” After covering the NFL for 40 years, he hit the road and re-visited (with new reporting) some of the biggest stories from his career. A must-read for sports fans and a journalism masterclass. Bravo, PK!

After a decorated 24-year run at ESPN, Nicole Noren resigned in protest.

She couldn’t go along with the network’s all-out embrace of gambling.

For the first time publicly, in @CJR, Noren shares the deeply personal reasons behind her decision.

Naila is the best of the best, and it’s about time she got to run her own sports section. Great hire, Detroit News!

“I’m not making an excuse,” Lane Kiffin said, “but I’ve said to people really close to me, I got the childhood star syndrome, too much too early …”

—Lane Kiffin tells the story of his time at USC, during this week’s House of Troy podcast from @latimes

[Tim Rohan @TimRohan]

Sad to hear this. Guy was a baseball institution who taught a generation of Mets how to play the game. Wrote this during spring training one year: https://t.co/TUyxn0gG0x

[Jay Horwitz @Jay_HorwitzPR]

We lost a good one today. Guy Conti our former bullpen coach and special adviser passed away after a lengthy illness. Guy was a friend of Sandy Koufax and beloved by Pedro Martínez. No one had more stories than Guy. His knowledge reached people for decades. Miss you my friend.

[Tim Rohan @TimRohan]

At first, Lane Kiffin didn’t want to talk for the @LATimes’ “House of Troy” podcast. Didn’t want to re-live his time at USC. Then he ended up talking for several *hours*. Lots of new details and reflection from Kiffin in Episode 4. Listen here: https://t.co/ul0bA1QrVA

Almost two decades after the NCAA said he broke the rules, Reggie Bush claims his case is “the biggest cover-up in NCAA history.”

Well, I spoke to the men who wanted to build an agency around Bush. They have a different story.

On the latest #HouseOfTroy https://t.co/asAsLBibyV

[Ryan Kartje @RyanKartje]

Lloyd Lake wanted to go legit.

Matt Cohen wanted on the map.

Dave Caravantes wanted to move up in the agent game.

So they tried to build an agency around Reggie Bush … and it blew up in their faces.

Thats on the latest chapter of #HouseOfTroy https://t.co/KIZpWElIVF

In 2004/05, a group of entrepreneurs made plans to start a sports agency around USC star Reggie Bush. And it … blew up in all their faces. @RyanKartje tracked down several of the main players for Episode 3 of “House of Troy,” from the @latimes, out now!: https://t.co/XxKaS0tYu3

In 2005, USC’s Matt Leinart felt so much pressure to perform, he broke down crying in Pete Carroll’s office.

“I said, will you shut the f— up?” Carroll recalls. “You’re the frickin’ Heisman Trophy winner, dude!”

It’s been 20 years since USC was on top of the college football world.

So how did it all come undone? And will USC ever return to those heights again?

HOUSE OF TROY, my new narrative podcast from @latimes, set out to find the answer.

Ep 1 is out now! https://t.co/UunOrGWKze

The @TheSteinLine + @JakeLFischer Substack is a must-read for NBA fans. They’re constantly reporting on potential signings, trades, changes in the wind before the news comes to fruition.

[Ryan Glasspiegel @sportsrapport]

Glass Break: @JakeLFischer has signed a multiyear deal to continue reporting on NBA with @TheSteinLine’s Substack, @FOS has learned. They first linked up in 2024.

Fischer first broke the news that the Raptors wanted to re-acquire Kawhi Leonard. He also works as an NBA insider for Bleacher Report.

[Ryan Kartje @RyanKartje]

Dennis Erickson turned them down. Mike Belotti, too.

The college football world thought in late 2000 USC’s was blowing its the search for its next coach.

So how did USC land on Pete Carroll?

The answer is at the start of #HouseOfTroy Chapter 1:
