Kemi spent most of her response attacking the Tory welfare record.

A reminder that under their watch:
Neets up 250k between 2021 and 2024;
Welfare spending rose twice as fast as in this Parliament;
Millions signed off and written off on sickness and disability benefits.

The tactical brilliance, professionalism, technology and training which underpinned Adm Lord Nelson’s stunning victory have driven and shaped the Navy ever since.

New IMF forecasts tell you 2 things about UK economy. Firstly, the British economy has proved resilient in face of the Iran conflict: IMF have UK growth as joint second fastest in G7 this year (forget forecasts, in hard data we’ve seen the fastest growth in G7 so far this year)

New polling out today shows young people strongly support our plans for better vocational and technical education. Yet they also say snobbery and pressure is putting them off pursuing it.

I’m putting hands-on learning on equal footing with academic.

I will ensure all our young people have options and pathways open to them, no matter what path they want to take.

Dear people of the UK, this Prize is for you!

In 1946, the British founded the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

80 years on, NRW says "Thank you", presenting its highest award, the State Prize, to the people of the UK, recognising the deep friendship between the state & the UK.

Great post from my colleague @GraemeDownieMP on the other ways Putin is damaging the UK...

[Graeme Downie MP @GraemeDownieMP]

For years, we've rightly focused on the military and political threat posed by Putin's Russia.

But there's another cost that receives far less attention. A hidden cost paid by British taxpayers, businesses and public services.

It's called the Putin Tax.

Very sad to hear that Dame Esther Rantzen has died.

Through her decades of campaigning, including founding Childline and The Silver Line, she changed countless lives and gave a voice to people who often went unheard.

And I will always admire the characteristic courage and openness with which she spoke about her illness, making us all think about the difficult questions we face at the end of life.

My thoughts are with her family and all who loved her.

STATEMENT ON FALKLAND ISLANDS
30 September 2026

Argentina's decision to initiate arbitration against the United Kingdom under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) is the latest attempt to undermine the rights and livelihoods of the people of the Falkland Islands. The people of the Falkland Islands have freely and democratically chosen their future, and they have every right to develop and manage their natural resources without intimidation, coercion or interference from others. Hydrocarbon activities on the Falkland Islands continental shelf are regulated under Falkland Islands law and conducted in full accordance with international law, including UNCLOS.

This week we made clear to Argentina's ambassador to the United Kingdom that efforts to obstruct lawful economic activity in the Falkland Islands are not acts of responsible international engagement; they are deliberate attempts to undermine the prosperity and economic security of a self-governing people. Such behaviour raises questions about Argentina's reliability as a partner for the United Kingdom.

The United Kingdom will continue to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the Falkland Islands Government and the Falkland Islanders. We will robustly defend their wishes, their economy and their right to determine their own future. As the Prime Minister has made clear, our support is steadfast.

UK Q2 GDP growth revised up to 0.5% by ONS.

So top growth in G7 in q1, second in q2 to Canada, overall fastest growth of g7 economies so far in 2026.

GDP per capita also revised up to 0.5% growth.

Definitely defying the suggestion that the Iran war would hit UK hardest.

A new National Care Service. Greater public control of water, energy, and housing. A National Commission on Electoral Reform. Strengthening our relationship with Europe. Reforming the education and welfare system.

Today I set out a different path for Britain.

You may disagree with some or all of what I have said today. But I have given you what you often say is missing from politics.

Honesty, ideas and a clear direction for the country we all love.

If you agree with enough of what I have said, get behind this plan. And get behind each other.

It's time to draw a line.

To move beyond a decade of drift and division.

To bring a spirit of unity and positivity back to our country.

To unlock the working-class aspiration that is still there in every postcode.

To hope again.

[Andy Burnham @andyburnham]

In my kitchen there is a jar of honey gifted to me by Phil Rosenberg, the President of the Board of Deputies, who insisted I take it home for my family, along with a bag of apples, because it would not be a proper new year otherwise.

So let me begin the simple way: Shana tova u'metuka. A good and sweet new year to every Jewish family in Britain.

The custom of dipping an apple in honey is one of the most hopeful things I know. It is not a claim that the year gone by was sweet. It is a decision that the year ahead should be.

And I know that the year behind us has been anything but.

Two Jewish men, Melvin Cravitz and Adrian Daulby both of blessed memory, were murdered at the gates of Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation in an antisemitic terror attack on Yom Kippur, defending their synagogue and those praying inside it. As Mayor of Greater Manchester, I felt first-hand the anxiety that attack caused across the Jewish community. The sorrow and fear of that day have not disappeared.

As Yom Kippur approaches once again, I know many people will remember them and reflect on what that attack meant. So, this message has to be more than a greeting for the chaggim. It has to contain a commitment.

Jewish people must be able to live, worship, go to school, attend synagogue and participate fully in British life without fear.

That is why we are investing more than £250 million to increase policing, improve community safety and tackle rising antisemitism, bringing total government investment in Jewish security to almost £310 million.

In recent days, the Housing Secretary and I have heard directly from Jewish community leaders about the challenges they face and the anxiety many families are experiencing as the High Holy Days approach.

That is why we have established a Cabinet committee on antisemitism, bringing departments together to ensure our response is coordinated, comprehensive and sustained.

But security is only one part of the response. We have to tackle antisemitism at its source.

We are also investing £7 million to tackle antisemitism in schools, colleges and universities, including support for Jewish students, staff training and action to address misinformation and promote respectful discussion. And we are expanding the Common Ground programme to support communities facing the greatest risk of antisemitism and help local leaders respond when tensions rise.

British Jews have helped build the schools, charities, businesses and institutions that make our country stronger. From the NHS and education to the arts, innovation and entrepreneurship, their contribution has enriched every part of our national life. The contribution the Jewish community makes to British life is remarkable- and we should celebrate it.

This new year, my commitment is simple: to work every day to ensure that Jewish people are safe, valued and able to live their lives free from fear.

May the year ahead be sweet, and may it be safe. Shana tova.
