But a NUP candidate called zziwa had a line of people over 400 and a NRM candidate had like 30 but the returning officer announced a NRM candidate as the winner and even helped a NRM candidate to run away with the DR forms when police is protecting them.

I cannot stop thinking about Nation Media (@ntvuganda, @DailyMonitor) journalists going thru a mini-version of the Covid-19 lockdown.

Although they aren’t really locked down – can freely move about – but the agony, emptiness must be immense: the sudden loss of routine, the emptiness of waking up to no schedule. Above all, the sudden loss of steady income!

Not sure how NMG management is managing this, but should be scary for them too. Absolute uncertainty.

The study is exploring how to support teachers in crisis-affected settings.

Of all the decrees to make, we skipped banning single-use plastic, evacuating wetlands, or treating toxic waste instead of dumping it in lakes. Instead, we picked mandatory cleaning days. Not opposed, but rich backers get away with it while we get photo ops in Kisenyi.

Habibi, over the last few years, hundreds of running clubs have sprung in Kampala. Makerere Run, AKA run, Kisaasi running group, name it! Every Saturday, hundreds of Ugandans wake up at 5 or 6 am to run with AKA Run Club. No one forces them. Every Wednesday, tens of people go to Makerere and run around the punishing hills. No force, just determination, and understanding why it is a good thing. Last week, hundreds burnt fuel to Fort Portal to run, next month, some will even fly in from Europe just to run! No force, inconvenience.

No one forces people to donate blood, even when there's a good reason for it in saving real lives. No one forces people to go to churches or mosques, millions of Ugandans do it every single week! Just a good reason and boom, they go there without missing!

If you must force something onto Ugandans, let it be a bad thing. Let it be something they really hate. A good number of Ugandans believe it is great to wake up and clean the streets without being forced every Saturday, all they lacked was government support. Give them that and sit back.

Don't shoot a poor boda boda man desperate to earn a living legally for his wife’s medication, or his children’s school fees because you want to force him to go cleaning instead! Don't waste police resources forcing people to clean; keep it for when we make those desperate calls when Kifeesi attack, those calls you normally respond to with “we don't have fuel…” Don’t make it impossible for Mama Shifa to catch an early morning taxi so she can alight off at Wandegeya to walk into Mulago and sweep the wards for the doctors to do their work like she has been doing every Saturday morning! Don't slap the old man off a boda, yet he travelled all the way from Kyenjojo to witness his daughter's wedding to the man of her dreams because you think he should be sweeping buveera instead and must be forced to do it!

Good initiatives take on a life of their own, cleaning shouldn't be judged by how many people are forced to do it the first two or three times, but the few dedicated people who do it out of passion, sell the idea to their friends and bring their families to it. I know Ugandans, and I trust them to do this on their own. So leave them, within a couple of weeks, people will be driving from Nansana to sweep with big-bummed women in Namugongo, and they will do it with the energy of a buffalo! No force, just raw passion for big bums! Before we know it, people will be sweeping twice a week out of pure passion!

Forcing this will kill a very good idea we all love and want to thrive!

In a country with a serious government, these three individuals @AAgather, @SpireJim and @GodwinTOKO would be awarded national honours for opening the lid and blowing the whistle on the grand corruption that was taking place in Parliament. I can't help but remember the kind of vitriol they received from regime apologists for releasing details of shocking transactions of billions landing on personal accounts. At the highest level, they were branded traitors and agents of foreigners.

Today, the same facts they revealed are stated in court documents. Even when the regime continues to harass them for their work, this moment provides all of us a lesson that when you remain consistent at doing the right thing, you'll most certainly be vindicated at the right time.
