@javarevisited Two points:
1. There will be lots of users with the same password. People are bad at remembering passwords so they use common words. Overlap is effectively certain.
2. If this question is possible then I never want to use this badly implemented service!
@RaySand17710097@SaulGPowell My point was actually that on a cold day you would need 1/3 to 1/2 of total capacity to supply heat. If you start adding load from EV charging and induction cookers then the local grid will definitely be experiencing challenges.
@RaySand17710097@SaulGPowell That 100kWh of gas is used to provide 80-90kWh of heat. An “average” heat pump should require 25-30kWh of electricity to provide the same heat. Approximately 1kW average load throughout the day.
@fashy@Zyigh@alittletyper@brandur Having getters and setters gives you the opportunity to manage state in a concurrent environment. It also lets you enforce constraints, have object lifecycle, and allows you to refactor the internals more easily.
@SallyJones143@susie_dent Definitely brain surgery. Rocketry, ballistics and orbital dynamics have moderately hard mathematics, but the big challenge is engineering something that won’t break apart. Brain surgery needs a detailed understanding of the brain, anatomy, imaging, and very careful execution.
@cyc1one1000@MrStephens13@BBCNews 85A is plenty for a charger - you can get one which monitors your incoming current. You’ll only hit the limit if you have a lot of electric heating. Failing that you can limit it to 16A, which is plenty fast enough to cover a 60+ mile daily commute in off peak hours.
@DanNeidle A tax question - would the overall tax take go up if allowances for higher earners (child benefit, nil rate band etc) were reinstated, and the additional rate threshold reduced to make it cost neutral?
The pensions “over saving” incentives must cost money, right?
@sometimesyouwin@paullewismoney@ken_hobbs There are a few that do, but people usually avoid them, much like the ones that make you pay for time of stay not energy delivered. They’re thankfully rare and hopefully disappearing
@RobR44133618@graeme_cobb @jaso12015 A few hours (or overnight) isn’t a big deal unless you’re doing it frequently. What you want to avoid is having the car at 100% and sitting for most of the time.
@graeme_cobb Keep the charge level over 20%, and ideally charge up at 40%. The battery will last best if you keep it in the middle of its range.
Also, charge to 100% (on AC) once per month or so for balancing.
Equally don’t worry about it. The battery will probably outlast the car.
@newt7215 @Imakefurniture1 @benrwright@RSymonsLTD The top buffer also plays a key role in extending longevity. So much of battery degradation occurs between 80% and 100%, so if you can “limit” the battery to 94%, and encourage people not to charge above 75% (80% indicated) then it will last *loads* longer.
@newt7215 @TechOperator@InsideChinaAuto There’s an EU requirement for software updates to be available for 7 years, but it’s not always particularly well followed. WiFi access points/routers and TVs are good example of things that get lip service updates at best. I hope my post ages poorly, but it will be a big change.
@newt7215 @TechOperator I can believe the long term maintenance line though. It’s pretty common for most consumer devices to see little/no real software maintenance after release. New features are developed for the next model while the old ones sit with unpatched vulnerabilities.
@AntiEVidiots@rosemeyer1939 Surely the rise of leasing is a result of the huge tax incentives? If you are a higher rate taxpayer then the BiK on a salary sacrifice EV has been difficult to ignore.
@osprey_ian@OctopusElectro@OctopusElectro has the additional advantage of telling you whether the chargers are available, which is a plus as it means you can skip ones that are busy.
@osprey_ian@OctopusElectro If I didn’t have kids with me then I might use a planner to optimise my charging stops a bit more, but even then I probably need more stops than the car does, so pretty much “plug in when I need a break”
