Abike Dabiri-Erewa, an interesting case study. Seriously.
You know, I’ve always believed that power doesn’t corrupt nearly as often as it reveals. It strips away the performance, the carefully rehearsed persona, and leaves you with something far more honest and far more permanent.
In Abike’s case, what’s been revealed is not strength, not clarity, not even conviction, but a certain fragility of depth. The kind that becomes apparent when words are spoken too quickly, too loosely, without the burden of reflection.
Public office is a peculiar thing. It doesn’t ask you to be perfect - no, that would be unreasonable. But it does demand awareness. Awareness of history, of consequence, of the invisible fault lines that run beneath a nation like Nigeria. And when someone entrusted with that responsibility speaks in ways that seem careless, dismissive, or uneven in empathy, it doesn’t just raise questions, it answers them.
Because you begin to see a pattern. Not an isolated misstep, but a consistency of poor judgment dressed up as authority. A tendency to speak without anchoring those words in wisdom or restraint. And over time, that pattern becomes identity.
The tragedy here isn’t loud. It rarely is. It’s quiet, almost polite.
A public figure, given a platform to unify, choosing instead - whether by instinct or limitation to contribute to the very fractures that demand healing.
And the most unsettling part?
It doesn’t feel accidental.
It feels like someone who was handed significance but never quite grew into it.
@abikedabiri my sister, be measured in your utterances and deeds.
Remember when Pastor E.A. Adeboye said he would never have a female secretary/PA be alone with a woman who isn’t his wife? He was heavily dragged online for that statement. Many young people insulted him, calling him old-fashioned or extreme, without realizing that he was speaking from a place of wisdom, experience, and responsibility.
Interestingly, this is Jason Derulo a secular artist, not even a Christian, expressing the exact same sentiment after the accusations he faced. He said he would never again be alone in a room with a woman because of how easily a situation can be twisted and how devastating the consequences can be. And even after his case was dismissed, the dismissal didn’t trend nearly as much as the initial accusation that damaged his name.
I’m not defending Jason Derulo, I don’t know anything about his personal life. It’s simply an observation: some truths are universal.
Like it or not, some principles that elders teach aren’t about religiosity; they are about wisdom, protection, and foresight. And sometimes it takes seeing the same pattern repeat in the life of a completely different person before we realize those truths were never outdated.

Who needs to hear this — again?
As Muslims (or Christians), we need to be calculative and cautious on matters related to calling others to our faith (i.e. evangelisation). We need to know who to approach, where and how to do that. Don't do anything anyhow, especially on social media, where people quickly get rude and abusive.
For instance, today is Christmas. You, as a Muslim, should not go under a Punch newspaper article about Christmas and preach that Jesus Christ (PBUH) was not God. This is silly and invites others to insult your religion and the religious figures you revere.
Please, let people be. I am not against preaching. However, we must accept our unavoidable diversity and plurality. While some of us have family members following the same religion, others are unlike that. And they didn't choose to belong to those families - neither did you.
Remember, Allah (SWT) says, "Invite all to the Way of your Lord with wisdom and kind advice, and only debate with them in the best manner. Surely your Lord alone knows best who has strayed from His Way and who is rightly guided" (Quran, 16:125).
May we be guided, amin.

In a multi religious society like our country Nigeria, we should teach the younger generation to not only learn about their own faith and beliefs but also the beauty of other's beliefs.

Love knows no cultural, racial or religious boundaries.
A family member, friend, a colleague or neighbor having different beliefs from yours shouldn't make you love them any less. After all, religions of the world emphasize the importance of love and for others.#FoRB#sfcgnigeria
Tolerance is the true essence of spirituality so a truly religious person embraces the beliefs of others. This doesn't mean agreeing with everything but rather respecting the rights of others to hold different beliefs.

It just wasn’t my scene
I grew up seeing many women broken by marriage
I grew up believing many women in the grace would have lived longer if they stayed single and
