Still buzzing from @btcplusplus Nairobi 🇰🇪, the first-ever conference in Africa, and the first open-source edition.
Day one was packed with incredible sessions that explored what it really means to build, contribute to, and sustain open-source software.
From practical advice on getting started in Bitcoin open source and becoming a better code reviewer, to discussions on making software more hackable and user-modifiable, there was something for everyone, regardless of where they are in their journey.
Proof of work is proof of learning, so let’s talk about the hackathon, where 37 projects were presented. Some of the standouts:
→ LNPesa won Best Tool for Mobile Brokers/Agents Using Bitcoin (sponsored by Minmo). It built tools for mobile brokers enabling cash-to-Bitcoin transactions on feature phones. Built by @KendyDorcas and @kellygakii2
→ SiriScore was recognized for innovation in Bitcoin privacy by @Its_nkathake , @mujojojayar , @Su_Githaiga , and @NNakhero
→ BitFund introduced new Bitcoin-based funding models for developers by @Esther_chestter and @irenenditi1
→ Pontswap built infrastructure for Bitcoin-to-fiat swaps and won Best Use of Pontmore Protocol. Presented by @_skillpulse
And a BIG SHOUT OUT to the overall winner, @nourou4them Details about the project aren’t public yet, but we’re looking forward to seeing them soon 👀
Out of all the talks and workshops, @megasley - @FreeRoutingAf session particularly resonated with us.
- “Lightning education is not a nice to have. It’s infrastructure.”
Scaling technical capacity across multiple countries isn’t optional, it’s the only way to contribute to and iterate on the protocol.
If that sounds familiar, it’s because we’ve been saying the same thing for years… just in Spanish 😉
This is how we experienced the FIRST OPEN SOURCE EDITION of @btcplusplus Nairobi 🇰🇪, meeting African devs and talent, learning a ton from the workshops, and connecting with local projects and old friends from @btrustteam
