The man who INVENTED modern AI just made a billion dollar bet that ChatGPT, Claude, and every AI company on earth is building the wrong technology.
Yann LeCun won the Turing Award in 2018 for creating the neural networks that made AI possible.
He spent a decade running AI research at Meta. Oversaw the creation of Llama and PyTorch, the tools that half the AI industry runs on.
Then he quit.
And raised $1.03 billion in a seed round.
The LARGEST seed round in European history. $3.5 billion valuation before generating a single dollar of revenue.
Bezos wrote the check. So did Nvidia. Samsung. Toyota. Temasek. Eric Schmidt. Mark Cuban. Tim Berners-Lee (the guy who invented the internet).
His new company is called AMI Labs. And it's built on one thesis:
Every AI company spending billions on large language models is wasting their money.
ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok. They all work the same way. They predict the next word in a sequence. See "the cat sat on the" and predict "mat." Scale that to trillions of words and you get something that sounds intelligent.
But LeCun says it doesn't UNDERSTAND anything.
It can't reason. It can't plan. It can't predict what happens when you push a glass off a table. A two year old can do that. GPT-5 cannot.
That's why AI hallucinates. It doesn't have a model of how the world actually works. It just predicts words.
His solution? Something called JEPA.
Instead of predicting words, it learns how the PHYSICAL WORLD works. Abstract representations of reality. Not language but physics.
Think about what that means.
Current AI can write your emails. LeCun's AI could design a car, run a factory, operate a robot, or diagnose a patient without hallucinating and killing someone.
The CEO of AMI said it perfectly: "Factories, hospitals, and robots need AI that grasps reality. Predicting tokens doesn't cut it."
And here's what's really crazy to me...
LeCun isn't some outsider throwing rocks. He literally built the foundations that ChatGPT runs on. He knows exactly how these systems work because he helped create them.
And after watching the entire industry sprint in one direction for three years, he raised a billion dollars to run the OPPOSITE way.
No product. No revenue. No timeline. Just pure research. He told investors it could take YEARS to produce anything commercial.
But they funded it anyway in just four months.
Meanwhile OpenAI just raised $120 billion and still can't stop their models from making things up. Anthropic is building AI so dangerous they're afraid to release it. Google is burning billions trying to catch up.
And the guy who started it all says they're all solving the wrong problem.
Two Turing Award winners raised $2 billion in three weeks betting AGAINST the entire LLM approach. LeCun at AMI. Fei-Fei Li at World Labs.
The smartest people in AI are quietly building the exit from the technology everyone else is betting their future on.
Either they're wrong and the trillion dollar LLM industry keeps printing.
Or they're right and every AI company on earth just built on a foundation that's about to crack.
someone built a $96 3D-PRINTED MANPADS rocket that recalculates its mid-air trajectory using a $5 sensor and piano wire
its called Project Canard
it integrates with distributed camera nodes to triangulate airborne targets and update flight paths in real-time
it proves the barrier to advanced hardware has completely collapsed, moving precision weapons from defense labs to consumer garages
the entire launcher and interceptor frame is 3D printed in PLA and runs off a standard off-the-shelf ESP32 microcontroller
it even spins up a local Wi-Fi network so you can monitor live telemetry and arm the system directly from your laptop
We often talk about how history repeats itself... how we all should have known better... that the answers were right in front of us, how did we not see them?
But there is no exact guide book, no clearly written out cheat sheet.
History does not repeat itself in exact carbon copies; it repeats itself in patterns.
The trick is analyzing the patterns and understanding the nuances involved to predict the most likely outcomes for our foreseeable future. The world does not, and has not ever, operated in a vacuum where the answer to the question was black and white, either this or that.
Thus, if the world does not work that way, then how can history? The patterns are what matters.
And the patterns we are seeing today look eerily similar to how they looked when European monarchies collapsed and fragile republics were eaten alive by competing collectivist movements in the early 20th century.
When kings were abandoned and the mass democracy experiment began, the fight was not really the left vs the right, it was liberal democracy vs a collection of movements that all believed the individual should be subordinated to the cause.
Communists, Marxists, Fascists, Nazis, and other collectivist authoritarian ideologies disagreed violently over which collective mattered most (class, race, nation, party, and so on), but they all shared the same system of operations.
Dissent from any was treated as betrayal.
That's why Hitler killed other socialists, why Stalin killed other communists, and why Mao exterminated other party members he once considered close allies.
In all of these collectivist ideologies, institutions were seen as tools to capture, not limits to respect. Power had to be centralized because the mission was always too important to allow any opposition.
The difference between Europe then and America now is structural, not moral. Europe had many political parties, so these movements formed openly as separate factions.
America compresses that same diversity into two massive parties. What looks like a single party from the outside is realistically just a coalition of ideological tribes on the inside. Small but aggressive minorities can punch far above their weight by capturing language, institutions, and gatekeeping power without ever becoming a separate party.
That is why the progressive left inside the Democratic Party feels less like traditional liberalism and more like a European style collectivist faction. It does not necessarily represent the majority of Democrats, just as radical parties in Europe rarely represented major parties at first, but it uses moral absolutism, identity primacy, and institutional pressure to force compliance.
The goal is not persuasion. The goal is control.
The same pattern exists within the Republican Party. There is now a Woke Right (Or Halal Right, as I prefer to call it) that claims the conservative label while using collectivist tactics it supposedly opposes. They reduce people to group identity, embrace conspiracies as politics, and treat constitutional limits as obstacles rather than safeguards.
Open antisemitism has reemerged in these corners as they have openly embraced, both rhetorically and tactically, Islamist extremists and terrorists.
This, also, is not new. European fascists did the same thing when it suited their interests. Extremists, after all, do not need to share end goals to share enemies.
The Nazi example matters here, not as a lazy insult, but as a warning about the same deception we have already seen and countered.
The Nazis marketed themselves as a nationalist, working class movement, yet they attacked capitalism, mocked liberal democracy, and used social language to broaden their coalition.
They were not Marxists, but they were absolutely collectivists.
To Nazis, private property existed only at the pleasure of the state, markets existed only so long as they served the regime, and labels mattered far less than methods.
This is the lesson history keeps trying to teach us.
Collectivist movements fight each other viciously, but they all agree on one thing: the individual is expendable, dissent is dangerous, and power must be centralized for the greater good. Democracy, free speech, and equal rights are tolerated only until they get into the way.
The danger in America is not that one ideology wins.
The danger is that multiple illiberal ideologies normalize authoritarian tactics in competition with one another.
That is how republics fall; not in a single coup, but through erosion, intimidation, and a steady replacement of citizenship with tribal loyalty.
The antidote is not flashy and it is not immediately emotionally satisfying, it is discipline, pluralism, and equal rights under the law. It is free speech, as free speech is still free speech even when it is uncomfortable, and it is institutions that constrain everyone, especially the people we agree with.
That framework feels slow and weak to those who crave moral certainty and power, but it is the only terrain on which a free society can survive on.
It is also the exact reason for the US Constitution.
History is not asking us to panic. It is asking us to pay attention; to understand the patterns history shows us so that we may learn from past mistakes.
Question everything.

⚡️This confirms the collapse sequence is already underway.
Mass capital flight by regime elites is one of the final markers of regime death. The dollar movements are not defensive. They are preparatory. This is extraction behavior. It only happens when insiders have certainty that the structure holding them is no longer stable.
This follows the same collapse logic seen in other terminal states:
•Libya: Gaddafi’s inner circle moved assets before NATO strikes
•Venezuela: elites shifted wealth offshore even before oil sanctions locked in
•Afghanistan: central bank reserves were frozen, and insiders liquidated in days
•Russia: oligarch capital rotation accelerated just before the Ukraine invasion
•Iran 2026: military stand-down, leadership silence, UN stall, and now financial flight
The rats don’t flee when danger might come. They flee when the ceiling has already cracked.
This is positioning. Dollar exfiltration means they are preparing to survive the aftermath. Which implies they’ve already surrendered to the inevitability of structural transition.
There is no coming back from this. The system has already hollowed out from within. The outer walls are still standing. The foundation is gone. Collapse is not forecasted. Collapse is now being managed.
I truly hope the Iranian citizenry is successful, but they are also absolutely on the clock.
History shows that popular uprisings against entrenched regimes operate on a brutally short clock, and the Iranian revolution currently unfolding is no different.
In Unconventional Warfare doctrine, time is decisive because legitimacy, momentum, and morale either compound quickly or collapse just as fast. That means the longer an authoritarian leader remains in power, the more opportunity he has to concentrate forces, isolate leaders, control communications, and fracture public unity through fear.
Continuously moving forward and overwhelming strategic infrastructure is a must.
UW case studies repeatedly show that regimes survive early unrest not by winning hearts, but by buying time, then applying overwhelming force once they understand who is organizing, where people gather, and how to sever support networks.
Every hour that the ayatollah maintains control increases his ability to dominate the population through security forces, propaganda, and targeted repression, turning spontaneous resistance into isolated, crushable pockets.
We saw similar issues in the attempted Venezuelan revolution in 2024 after the fraudulent election.
Successful resistance movements historically succeed when pressure peaks faster than the regime can adapt; when that window closes, even massive popular support can be neutralized.
Pray for the people in Iran to overcome tyranny and oppression.

Dear Mr. Vice President
Early today, on a program called @AmericaNewsroom, I was being interviewed about my foundations ongoing attempts to reinvigorate the skilled trades. At the end of the interview, which I’ve attached, the anchor played a short clip of you giving a speech, wherein you posed the same question I’ve been asking for the last seventeen years: “Why do we keep encouraging our kids to borrow whatever it takes to buy an expensive four-year degree, when so many other excellent options are at their disposal?” (Or something to that effect.)
When the anchor asked for my reaction, I said, “Amen,” and then, somewhat cheekily, I invited you to give me a call, so we might discuss a new campaign in Texas, which proves that college is not in fact, the best path for the most people. In the campaign, I introduce viewers to six-figure, AI-proof jobs currently available in Texas that don’t require a four-year degree, and a host of regular Americans who who are prospering by doing them. Last month, my foundation awarded over $5 million in work ethic scholarships, to help train the next generation of skilled workers. Next year, I’d like to double that. If the campaign in Texas works, (and it will,) I’d like to take it to every state.
Wanna help?
Obviously, I thought better of sharing my number on live television, but wanted to let you know that several people in your inner circle know how to reach me, should you be inclined to do so. Howard Lutnick and I have chatted about the need for a national effort to reinvigorate the trades. He has my number. So does Linda McMahon at Education, Kelly Leoffler at the SBA, and Pete Hegseth, over at The Department of War. All of them are familiar with our efforts at mikeroweWORKS, and all believe in the importance of making a more persuasive case for the opportunities at hand. Thus, all are hereby invited to share my digits with your office, should you like to connect.
To be clear, I don’t believe the government can close America’s skills gap. This will take more than an executive order, or a traditional flight of public service announcements. Frankly, I don’t believe the gap will ever close completely, but we can narrow it dramatically, and I think you guys have a critical role to play. Not a week goes by that my foundation doesn’t hear from the leader of an essential industry, desperate to find people willing to learn a useful skill and go to work. We need to reinvigorate the trades, and we need to do it quickly. If you and your team are on a similar path, we’d be honored to collaborate.
Here's a look at what launched to today in Texas. It will grow a little more every day. https://t.co/4wAzgui6Ik
Sitting in an SF coffee shop and an idea just hit me. Since the PRC is using every Western institution against us, including the U.S. government's own USPTO, and since they have been stealing every bit of IP they can get their hands on, why don't we simply invalidate every patent filed by a PRC associated entity? Make them all free and open ideas for anyone in the West to leverage vice allowing the PRC to control them. It is the USPTO, not the PRC PTO. Alternatively could auction them off to the highest bidder from a western nation.
Sec. of State Marco Rubio’s new interview just went viral.
And he's NOT talking about tariffs or China.
He exposed a secret $50M shadow agency inside the State Department that tried to silence Americans...
Here’s what you should know (& how they tried to erase free speech): 🧵
Ten bad takeaways from the Zelenskyy blow-up
1. Zelenskyy does not grasp—or deliberately ignores—the bitter truth: those with whom he feels most affinity (Western globalists, the American Left, the Europeans) have little power in 2025 to help him. And those with whom he obviously does not like or seeks to embarrass (cf. his Scranton, Penn. campaign-like visit in September 2024) alone have the power to save him. For his own sake, I hope he is not being “briefed” by the Obama-Clinton-Biden gang to confront Trump, given their interests are not really Ukraine’s as they feign.
2. Zelenskyy acts as if his agendas and ours are identical. So, he keeps insisting that he is fighting for us despite our two-ocean-distance that he mocks. We do have many shared interests with Ukraine, but not all by any means: Trump wants to “reset” with Russia and triangulate it against China. He seeks to avoid a 1962 DEFCON 2-like crisis over a proxy showdown in proximity to a nuclear rival. And he sincerely wants to end the deadlocked Stalingrad slaughterhouse for everyone’s sake.
3. The Europeans (and Canada) are now talking loudly of a new muscular antithesis, independent of the U.S. Promises, promises—given that would require Europeans to prune back their social welfare state, frack, use nuclear, stop the green obsessions, and spend 3-5 percent of their GDP on defense. The U.S. does not just pay 16 percent of NATO’s budget but also puts up with asymmetrical tariffs that result in a European Union trade surplus of $160 billion, plays the world cop patrolling sea-lanes and deterring terrorists and rogues states that otherwise might interrupt Europe’s commercial networks abroad, as well as de facto including Europe under a nuclear umbrella of 6,500 nukes.
4. Zelenskyy must know that all of the once deal-stopping issues to peace have been de facto settled: Ukraine is now better armed than most NATO nations, but will not be in NATO; and no president has or will ever supply Ukraine with the armed wherewithal to take back the Donbass and Crimea. So, the only two issues are a) how far will Putin be willing to withdraw to his 2022 borders and b) how will he be deterred? The first is answered by a commercial sector/tripwire, joint Ukrainian-US-Europe resource development corridor in Eastern Ukraine, coupled with a Korea-like DMZ; the second by the fact that Putin unlike his 2008 and 2014 invasions has now lost a million dead and wounded to a Ukraine that will remain thusly armed.
5. What are Zelenskyy’s alternatives without much U.S. help—wait for a return of the Democrats to the White House in four years? Hope for a rearmed Europe? Pray for a Democratic House and a 3rd Vindman-like engineered Trump impeachment? Or swallow his pride, return to the White House, sign the rare-earth minerals deal, invite in the Euros (are they seriously willing to patrol a DMZ?), and hope Trump can warn Putin, as he did successfully between 2017-21, not to dare try it again?
6. If there is a cease fire, a commercial deal, a Euro ground presence, and influx of Western companies into Ukraine, would there be elections? And if so, would Zelenskyy and his party win? And if not, would there be a successor transparent government that would reveal exactly where all the Western financial aid money went?
7. Zelenskyy might see a model in Netanyahu. The Biden Administration was far harder on him than Trump is on Ukraine: suspending arms shipments, demanding cease-fires, prodding for a wartime, bipartisan cabinet, hammering Israel on collateral damage—none of which Westerners have demanded of Zelenskyy. Yet Netanyahu managed a hostile Biden, kept Israel close to its patron, and when visiting was gracious to his host. Netanyahu certainly would never before the global media have interrupted, and berated a host and patron president in the White House.
8. If Ukraine has alienated the U.S. what then is its strategic victory plan? Wait around for more Euros? Hold off an increasingly invigorated Russian military? Cede more territory? What, then, exactly are Zelenskyy’s cards he seems to think are a winning hand?
9. If one views carefully all the 50-minute tape, most of it was going quite well—until Zelenskyy started correcting Vance firstly, and Trump secondly. By Ukraine-splaining to his hosts, and by his gestures, tone, and interruptions, he made it clear that he assumed that Trump was just more of the same compliant, clueless moneybags Biden waxen effigy. And that was naïve for such a supposedly worldly leader.
10. March 2025 is not March 2022, after the heroic saving of Kyiv—but three years and 1.5 million dead and wounded later. Zelenskyy is no longer the international heartthrob with the glamorous entourage. He has postponed elections, outlawed opposition media and parties, suspended habeas corpus and walked out of negotiations when he had an even hand in Spring 2022 and apparently even now when he does not in Spring 2025.
Quo vadis, Volodymyr?
can you imagine tim walz delivering this speech?
america has this uncanny ability to surface & select the inevitable individuals when history demands it.
To be clear, what the @DOGE team and @USTreasury have jointly agreed makes sense is the following:
- Require that all outgoing government payments have a payment categorization code, which is necessary in order to pass financial audits. This is frequently left blank, making audits almost impossible.
- All payments must also include a rationale for the payment in the comment field, which is currently left blank. Importantly, we are not yet applying ANY judgment to this rationale, but simply requiring that SOME attempt be made to explain the payment more than NOTHING!
- The DO-NOT-PAY list of entities known to be fraudulent or people who are dead or are probable fronts for terrorist organizations or do not match Congressional appropriations must actually be implemented and not ignored. Also, it can currently take up to a year to get on this list, which is far too long. This list should be updated at least weekly, if not daily.
The above super obvious and necessary changes are being implemented by existing, long-time career government employees, not anyone from @DOGE. It is ridiculous that these changes didn’t exist already!
Yesterday, I was told that there are currently over $100B/year of entitlements payments to individuals with no SSN or even a temporary ID number. If accurate, this is extremely suspicious.
When I asked if anyone at Treasury had a rough guess for what percentage of that number is unequivocal and obvious fraud, the consensus in the room was about half, so $50B/year or $1B/week!!
This is utterly insane and must be addressed immediately.
Interesting approach and application ... 🤔 Among others, one downside to this is the risk posed to those privateers, assuming they would be U.S. citizens, should the run afoul of other country law enforcement/military ....
