Molecular Neurodegeneration Research Group at @NDCNOxford based at @KavliOxford.
Researching Parkinson’s pathogenesis aiming to identify targets for therapies.
Many congratulations to our talented #DPhil student
@Gordon_Lam97@TofarisLab@KavliOxford@NDCNOxford who received an award from the Henry Lester Trust for his studies using iPSC-based models of #Parkinson's disease. Well done! Keep an eye out for his paper!
Thanks so much to @OxNeurosci for organising such a fantastic day for the neuroscience community last week at @UniofOxford!
Our Master’s student, Emilia Hogg, had the opportunity to present her project and engage with the community, a great experience all around 🧠✨
@NDCNOxford
"During my undergraduate degree, I developed an interest in the mechanisms underlying pathological brain ageing and was particularly drawn to understanding Parkinson’s disease.
🚣Outside of my studies, I enjoy rowing and ski instructing."
🎉We are happy to welcome Emilia Hogg for her Master's project.
@NDCNOxford@KavliOxford
"As part of my Master’s in Clinical and Therapeutic Neuroscience, I am joining the lab to study ⍺-synuclein aggregation and degradation.
Many congratulations to @ShijunVictorYan who has transitioned from a very successful DPhil @TofarisLab@NDCNOxford@KavliOxford directly to Distinguished Investigator at Zhejiang University. An outstanding achievement. He is the 4th @TofarisLab alumnus to become Assistant Prof!
🇬🇧Great meeting organized by @SomosRAICEX, the network of associations of Spanish researchers abroad. We shared challenges, collaboration opportunities, and I had the opportunity to present my research titled “From Skin to Brain: Science to Understand Parkinson’s”
@ComunidadCeru
Wonderful talk by @sahooanis who presented our recently published Cell Reports Medicine paper on surface #EV alpha-synuclein as an early #Parkinson’s biomarker at @UKEVSocc Forum 2025🔬

Fantastic presentation and discussion today by @GeorgeTofaris in Boston - excited to learn more about the latest developments in EV a-Synuclein research 🧠🔬
Many congratulations to our talented #DPhil student @Gordon_Lam97@TofarisLab@KavliOxford@NDCNOxford who was awarded a Great Britain-China Education Trust scholarship for his mechanistic studies using iPSC-based models of #Parkinson's disease. Well done and very well deserved!
I am motivated to understand how glial cells coordinate to maintain neuronal health and how their dysfunction contributes to neurodegeneration.
Outside of the lab, I enjoy ballet, working out, going to art museums and musicals."
@NDCNOxford@KavliOxford
We welcome @MJKimSerena, to our group!
"For my DPhil project, I will study interactions between neurons, microglia and astrocytes in Parkinson’s using human stem cells.
At @UKDRI in UCL, I worked on how brain hyperactivity contributes to immune-driven synapse loss in AD.
"I aim to work on a project on biomarkers, which might help us to improve the detection and understanding of diseases like Lewy Body dementia.
When I’m not working in the lab or the hospital, I enjoy classical singing, baking and spending time with my cat."
@KavliOxford
🥳We are very excited to welcome Dr Kilda Carpenter to our lab!
@NDCNOxford
"I’m Kilda, an Academic Clinical Fellow in Old Age Psychiatry. My research interests include neurodegenerative conditions, especially Lewy Body dementia, and visual hallucinations in older adults."
This week we celebrated @_Suman_Dutta, who soon transitions to independence as Assistant Professor. He is the third member of @TofarisLab to achieve this milestone! A fantastic colleague and an outstanding scientist all around. Many congratulations Suman and all the best.
We were awarded GOLD Laboratory Efficiency Assessment Framework (#LEAF) standard aiming to reduce carbon impact & promote sustainable lab practices. Well done to everyone @TofarisLab.
Special thanks to Andrew Castle who spearheaded this effort!
