10 Years Ago on the Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend our team at @NYC_DOT closed Broadway to traffic to create pedestrian plazas at Times and Herald Square. Reflecting on this 10 years later I have 10 lessons that can inform our work making great streets for great cities today.
Now it's 15 years! NYC is lucky to still have the likes of Sean Quinn and Josh Benson making its streets better. And each year its harder and harder to imagine the way it was before plazas!

@RepJoshG Thoughtful leadership would recognize the benefits that are on the way for New Jerseyans, whether they save time driving or benefit from better transit.
@henrygrabar Later it received a curb bus lane. Then more recently the exterior red bus lane. And now there is this overhead…should change the balance!
🚨 AB 1082 🚨 is a well intentioned bill that will be a total disaster for roadway safety in CA.
You think parking in bike lanes and bus stops is bad today?
Wait until there are ZERO consequences. For this or ANY other parking violation. @NancySkinnerCA please vote NO 1/9
@MikeLydon Exciting! I have some stories from taking the original “Before and After” photos from the Manhattan Bridge bike path in 2007. When it’s done it would be fun to work with @NYC_DOT on taking the “after” photo for the capital project.

@jonorcutt Do you have the same critique about the findings of reduction in pedestrian injuries from protected bike lanes? And how do you debunk the 50% reduction in turning speeds?
@jonorcutt Total joke or cutting turning speeds in half and reducing severe injuries to pedestrians by 33%, slightly hiring than the reduction that comes from protected bike lanes? (NYC data) https://t.co/cz4VwnEcjh
One thing I'm always going to do is stand with JWW. One of the realest and always there when you need a true advocate, friend, and leader.

We've fallen down a rabbit hole into a wonderland where most fire engine calls are in response to traffic crashes, our fire engines are too big to operate anywhere other than on wide streets and most car crashes occur because our streets are too wide.
