@RiveraIsis1@ElissaMMonteiro Learning to balance their sport and their education is imperative for athletes. It is not being taught to them and the educational field is not being engaging or open enough with athletes. The system is just lacking in proper support

Happy Week 9!
College athletes suffer with academic engagement and biased stereotyping in education. More engagement programs and processes need to exist to support athletes.

Week 7!
Athletes have pushed against the unfairness of the NCAA. The Livers v NCAA case serves to gain fair compensation for athletes as equal work study students. Isaiah Livers wears a shirt with #NotNCAAProperty#educ150@ElissaMMonteiro
https://t.co/0C1a6zfXQm
@RiveraIsis1@ElissaMMonteiro The NCAA's regulations on student-athletes exists solely to control them and gain from student-athlete's talents without proper consolation. These 4-4 regulations put a cage around student-athletes binding them with NLI contracts
#educ150@ElissaMMonteiro
Happy Week 6
Student-athletes should be free to transfer schools without hundreds of regulations. The NCAA claims to empower student-athletes with this Transfer Portal but refuses to actually limit regulations
#educ150@ElissaMMonteiro
https://t.co/hDbvMqF9PA
@oshirley5@ElissaMMonteiro The NCAA needs to step up and begin taking the responsibility that the entire organization was created for. By not requiring enforcement or training the NCAA is neglecting to protect student-athletes.
#educ150@ElissaMMonteiro
Happy Week 5!
Student-Althelete concussions rates are reaching extreme highs and going wildly underreported due to many reasons. One of which is a blantant and gross lack of training and monitoring by coaches and players alike.

@RiveraIsis1@ElissaMMonteiro Exactly! Unequal treatment is being perpetuated in 80% of the schools across Amercia which is a gross oversight in terms of equity. The ORC does well to set these schools up for change but more needs to be done to shift the balance of inequity in sports
#educ150@ElissaMMonteiro
Week 4!
Title IX is extremely important in supporting equity in intercollegiate and all sports and I am easily reminded of this case

Happy Week 3!
In terms of athletic scholarships the inequity for players is staggering. There is a disproportionate amount of players represented in minority groups and little protection from the NCI.

@oshirley5@ElissaMMonteiro This is so true. Far more change needs to be enacted to support and protect student athletes. The beginning of change start slow but with policies like this one we can make a more equitable and supportive system!
Happy Week 2!
Educ 150 brought us Amateurism and the NCAA Cartel. It's clear that the NCAA has a hypocritical and unfair definition of amateurism which exists to keep student athletes under the control of the NCAA & other systems withholding support
#educ150@ElissaMMonteiro
@Brooke30102189@helloJuJudy@val_orue This is very true. Student athletes often advocate for themselves and bring a lot of good change when they do so. Covid is hitting them hard and limiting their potential

Happy Week 1 UCR!
This week in Educ. 150 we study the principles of NCAA. I found the Megaphone v.s. Muzzles labels most interesting. Especially considering a lot of change comes via student athletes themselves.
#ucr150@val_orue or @helloJuJudy sorry I'm not sure which one
