The bird doing zoomies in this video runs the most extreme digestive system in the animal kingdom. Vulture stomach acid sits near pH 1, strong enough to destroy anthrax, rabies, and botulism in the carcasses they eat. A flock strips a cow to bone in about 45 minutes.

India had 50 million of them. Free sanitation at national scale, in a country where religious custom means most cattle die natural deaths and every dead cow becomes a carcass someone has to deal with.

Then the patent on diclofenac expired in 1994. Farmers started using the cheap painkiller on livestock. Trace amounts left in a carcass cause kidney failure in vultures. Within a decade, 50 million birds fell to a few thousand. The fastest collapse of any bird species since the passenger pigeon.

The carcasses didn't disappear. Feral dogs took the vultures' place and brought rabies with them. Rotting remains leached into waterways. In districts where vultures once thrived, human death rates rose more than 4 percent. Economists at Chicago and Warwick put the toll at 100,000 extra deaths a year and $69 billion in annual damages.

So yes, the goofy bird sprinting down the walkway is adorable. It's also a disease firewall that evolution spent millions of years building and one generic painkiller nearly erased in ten.

I see and feel deep sadness and even horror of the news of death of Jason Arday. His memory should be honored by serious reflection on the system that created his impossible position: having to occupy a uniform/disguise created for him by white elites who used him as a political prop for the own propitiatory political indulgence. If Covid lockdowns ended within a month the people who said it will only last 2 weeks would have been more right than the people like me who said it would last for years and lead to vaccine mandates.

The same goes for the predictions of a forever war and occupation of Iran, regardless of whether it lasts a whole month past the 4 week target.

There will be no occupation, the main strategic objectives of blowing up Irans military and setting them back a decade is complete. A fact critics won’t even engage with, but which I outlined at the start.

The deal is the cherry on top and Iran is not making more money by being blockaded. The third string of leadership just helped us finish up bombing their internal rivals.

The whole point of supplying a broad alliance and setting Iran back a decade is so the Middle East is no longer reliant on the US for security.

If Iran developed missile deterrence with the changing technological landscape it would have been impossible to leave the Middle East. The demand to have us there as a counter balance would have been permanent. And it would be a lingering vector for WW3.

The reality of security dependencies matter. You can’t just “pull the troops out” you won’t get elected on dismantling the US empire with a red button. Or be able to carry it out from office. This is libertarian fantasy.

Trump is getting done in reality through practical politics what we can only dream of.

Bombing Iran is not going to make our relations with Iran any worse, if anything it will make them think twice.

In 5-10 years of Abraham accords development, no US wars and withdrawn US presence, the geopolitical situation with Iran will have changed by the time it becomes a problem again.

Muslims make up about 25% of the entire world’s population — over 2 billion people across 50+ countries.

Japanese people? About 1.4% of the world. One single country.

Shinto exists only in Japan.

So when people say “Japan should prioritize minorities and be more accommodating to Islam,” who exactly are we talking about?

The global majority is coming to one of the world’s smallest ethnic and religious groups and demanding that Japan change its culture, food, and traditions for them.

That’s not “protecting minorities.” That’s the majority trying to colonize a tiny minority.

Japan has every right to protect its own people and culture first.

If Muslims want to live under Islamic rules, they already have dozens of countries where they can do that. They don’t need to come to Japan and turn it into another one.
