US funds that sign the PRI don't actually invest responsibly - either by investing in companies with high ESG scores, or by improving their ESG performance post-investment. @TheEconomist feature story on "Do Responsible Investors Invest Responsibly?". https://t.co/7wxNtxEYfZ
Do investors that sign the UN PRI practice what they preach? Outside the US, signatories have more sustainable holdings than non-signatories. But in the US, their holdings are at best similar, if not worse; they also fail to reform ESG underperformers. https://t.co/0jG2dRQ4F2.
Like sausages, the process of making a G20 communiqué isn't pretty. Here's how the wording changed from Fri until Sun on new domestic coal-fired stations, from an immediate stop, to one in the 2030s, to finally a vague voluntary commitment with not date | #COP26#coal
🇺🇸Some US-domiciled institutional investors are able to attract higher flows & thus their primary motive is commercially-driven. #greenwashing

There is a lot of discussion of bias in economics. This discussion is justified & needed. What I can add to this is some stories on how economists treat people from outside the field. Let me share with you a few bone chilling stories of what I’ve been through 🧵/1 #EconTwitter
I've received several DMs from friends asking what do to about parents/family members who believe misinformation regarding the election, vaccines and COVID. Here's a research-based thread to help explain the roots of these beliefs and how to (and how *not* to) address them. 1/
Absolutely damning data on the complete failure to follow Covid-19 guidelines in the UK
• Only 18% of people self-isolate after developing symptoms
• Only 11% quarantine after being told by NHS Test and Trace that they’ve been in contact with a confirmed case
NEW with @AndyBounds, @sarahnev & @Laura_K_Hughes:
The UK government’s published numbers of new cases at local authority level only include pillar 1 and *not* pillar 2 cases, meaning as many as 90% of new cases are missing from the data

Thread:
Martin Luther King in the season premier of Game of Thrones (For those not fully up to speed with the crass ignorance of our government here's an explainer. https://t.co/uaUdo9Xczz)
Science is a discipline based on peer review, therefore it is critical scientific advice is transparent. We are convening this meeting not to criticise the scientists on SAGE but to ensure that what we believe is the best science is available and in the public domain.
I don’t think I’ve said this loud enough, so here goes: Every economist I know believes that the single best way to ensure a robust recovery is to beat the bug. There’s no economic health without public health.
This is the best measure I’ve seen of quite how few #COVID19 tests the UK has done. It is an international league table of countries ranked by percentage of population tested, compiled by Julian Ozanne (who was on FT with me in another life). The UK comes 20th out of 20
@devisridhar The city of New York is currently doing more than twice as many tests as the whole of the UK.
South Korea had its first case of #coronvirus at the same time as the US & UK.
It introduced mass testing & has only had 158 #Covid19 deaths - just 6 yesterday.
