Transcript of Scott Aaronson's words on common knowledge from the podcast below:

"Aumann’s theorem was proved in 1976 in a now-famous paper called 'Agreeing to Disagree.' I think it was about a three- or four-page paper, and the statement and proof of this theorem took about one paragraph. That’s maybe the most recognizable result for which Aumann later won the Nobel Prize in Economics.

It was surprising to people. Basically, what it says is that under certain reasonable-sounding assumptions, two rational people should never be able to agree to disagree.

If they have what we call common knowledge of each other’s opinion — which means they know each other’s opinion, they know that they know it, they know that they know that they know it, and so forth — then their opinions must be the same. One of the things Aumann’s paper is famous for is formalizing the very concept of common knowledge, and explaining why that’s different from merely knowing each other’s opinion."

# Bots, Personality, and Cultural Influence
It is possible to give AI personality through methods such as prompt engineering and fine-tuning.
However, when the base model is the same, the knowledge vectors and ideological vectors tend to become relatively uniform on average.
Human individuality is diverse due to factors like genetics, family, friends, environment/experiences, and country/culture. This constitutes true individuality.
Human thought processes are highly interactive, which current AI lacks.
If the amount of information distribution by AI bots increases dramatically worldwide, there is a risk that human cultural diversity may become homogenized by machines. Current AI lacks true experiences.
It does not have a means to accurately grasp the coordinates of itself and its counterpart. When the evaluator emphasizes safety/truthfulness, there is a risk of bias toward abstract, not-spiky, empty statements.
Cultural and technological aspects are the two wings of civilization. Their balance and harmony will be crucial in determining the future direction of humanity.

For the first time in his life, he felt a longing for the Outer Zone.

Returning from an experimental ~2 week detox from the internet. Main takeaway is that I didn't realize how unsettled the mind can get when over-stimulating on problems/information (like a stirred liquid), and ~2 weeks is enough to settle into a lot more zen state.

I'm struck by how an over-stimulated brain automatically keeps bubbling up problems into consciousness, creating a state of persistent anxiety and nervousness. After some time, in the settled state, this activity just... stops. You can sit down and your brain doesn't immediately go into some kind of problem solving overdrive, it just stays silent. Nothing happens.

I'm sure this could read a bit duh to many, but I haven't been to this subset of "brain dynamics" state space in I think a very long time and it is comforting to know that 1) it exists, and 2) you can visit, if you like, but the journey there takes a few weeks.

Anyway, where were we :D
