"A Short History of Nearly Everything" by Bill Bryson is an INCREDIBLE accomplishment of a book. It provides a quick and humorous primer on every scientific field.

It's also PACKED with insanely fun facts. Here are my 8 favorites. 🧵 👇

@oldwaver That was not going in. Chunked it bad

[Tom @TomsMind]

@ScottHanson That was not going in either. Chunked it

The griddy has reigned for simply too long

@p_millerd Am military. These kids get married very young for the benefits (better housing, more pay, etc.), and it goes very poorly very often. I do think marriage before children is still a very good idea.

@SportsSturm That Gallup contract might turn out fine just fine

[Tom @TomsMind]

@SportsSturm Yup.

---> DAL (12) @ TB (0) <---
TB has 4th & 3 at the TB 47

Recommendation (MEDIUM): 👉 Go for it (+1.6 WP)
Actual play: 🏈🦵 J.Camarda punts 44 yards to DAL 9, Center-Z.Triner, fair catch by K.Turpin.

@patrick_oshag Boyd by Robert Coram discusses this dilemma excellently.

Coaches: "GTFO here you demon"

[Tom @TomsMind]

@tom_morganKCP @SuperMugatu @NeckarValue 15 wolves + gun. Though I am intrigued by the 4 lions. But 15 wolves is a lot. Biggest challenge would be hawks and bears. Stay in the center of the wolfpack and shoot the big stuff first.

@marginalreturns @Jack_Raines @Stanford Phew. Also looks like we can still describe a spectacular failure as something going "tits up."

Which group is more cringe-worthy?

1. People who fall all over themselves to criticize @elonmusk, someone who has objectively accomplished a lot.

2. People who fall all over themselves to defend @elonmusk, someone who has objectively done some stupid shit.

Haters vs. fanboys…

This account is (intentionally) absurd, but this rings true. I think about this a lot.

“Default” doesn’t work anymore.

We live in the most toxic environment in history. Cancer, heart disease, diabetes, stroke, Alzheimers are all becoming more common amongst younger people. No longer can you just passively eat, drink and live and be healthy. It's going to take a massive effort to resist.
