Back in the Ypres Salient. Today looked at Padre on the Front line.
Including Rev Noel Mellish VC who in 1919 officiated at the wedding of Sidney Godley VC both of 4/Royal Fusiliers
Off to Sherborne tomorrow to give a talk on aviation in the New Forest to my old ATC Sqn before their DofE expedition in the forest next month.
Hope things go better than for this poor chap.
If they studied their history they would know it has been happening for nearly 300 years they even held the infamous Boston tea party in rebellion to British tea act
There has been a lot of activity recently on various social media platforms about the 3pm tea time alarm, my question is this why are the Americans so convinced it is in the words of their President "fake news".
@thebattleguide@PeterHart1915 Peter gave a brilliant talk recently for the Wessex branch of the WFA on this subject, great background information for anyone in WW1 Generals.
I really enjoyed reading this. It shed light on campaigns that I was dimly aware of. Lots of first-hand accounts and some good battle maps (could have done with an overview map). Good, too, to read about men whose names are synonymous with later conflicts. Thanks @PeterHart1915
@NewForestRamble Hi Mark sorry it's a talk I give, though it covers Louis Strange in both World Wars it can be tailored to concentrate on either.
I should be at East Boldre at the end of February if you era interested perhaps we can have a chat
@Sophie_1WWTours A great woman, I remember the 75th D-Day commemoration when it was pointed out that of the then current world leaders she was the only one alive at the time and had also served her country
I don't normally post photos of graves, but today I went to pay my respects to Pte James Read he was born in Child Okeford, Dorset. When I researched him I realised we would have attended the same Church, went to the same school and probably drunk in the same pubs
At the Gold Hill museum in Shaftesbury this afternoon to give a talk on Louis Strange, a Dorset farmer and aviation pioneer. Possibly the only pilot to win a DFC in both World Wars
