@dhmontgomery That’s true of a LOT of free software stuff. (I used to help moderate Linux-related IRC channels with tens of thousands of users in some of them - it’s certainly a challenge.)
An Ohio teacher, who was reading The Sneetches to her Grade 3 class, was abruptly cut off by an admin when a student said "It's almost like what happened back then, how people were treated. Like, disrespected. Like, white people disrespected Black people.”

"Religious freedom is not intended to elevate the religious beliefs of the rich and powerful at the expense of the beliefs of everyone else," Minnesota State Sen. @JohnMarty told @FredClarkson for RD in advance of Religious Freedom Day: https://t.co/6wrbhL91vF
@mevdev@minnesotabrown@ActualWolf@MNReformer So, top speed at your uncle’s particular address may still be only 20Mbps, but at least it’s definitely no longer true that that’s the top speed on the Iron Range generally. (The map also makes clear that Lake and Cook took better advantage of stimulus than St. Louis or Itasca.)
@mevdev@minnesotabrown@ActualWolf@MNReformer DoLI’s goal figure for 2026 is at least 100M down / 20M up - attached in the map of where we stand on that currently. There are high-speed trunks through the Iron Range now, but the local connections are still in progress. Looks like much of Eveleth is covered actually.
Fed research: The surge in retirements since 2020 "accounts for essentially all of the shortfall" in labor force participation rates
"More than half of the increase in the number of retirees appears to be a direct result of the pandemic." https://t.co/WgXfidul3p
@mevdev@minnesotabrown@ActualWolf@MNReformer That depends on where exactly you are. There have been a HUGE number of fiber projects in the Arrowhead and Iron Range since the Obama-era stimulus and infrastructure bills. If you happen to be close to those new lays then you’re faster than the Metro, but last-mile needs remain.
@StribRoper You’ll also need parameters for “largest”. Mass? Volume? Longest side?
If that last one, the elevator in the Soudan mine shaft is one contender.
For other measures, dam locks are probably in the running.
Now the stupid techbros are running experiments on people experiencing mental health issues, without their knowledge or consent. Lock these idiots up before they kill someone.
Do you understand why this is bad? You perform experiments with some of the most vulnerable people and are casually explaining that you did this without their consent?
@wulffden@FrederickMelo You lost my city at “plans”…we’re pretty reactionary over here. Or Comp Plan is basically “exactly how it is now, unless a developer asks us to change something”. So that’s another whole issue.
