I just met the Muslim family from #UttamNagar whose home was bulldozed after the recent communal tensions. As we sat with them, the woman of the house narrated what had actually happened that day. She spoke about how a 20-year-old man named Prince allegedly threw a balloon at her aunt and tried to molest her. When the family protested, he later returned with a group of people and a scuffle broke out. Tarun was among those who came with the group, and in the chaos that followed, he died.

Listening to her, one thing kept echoing in my mind: did anyone in authority, or any of the loud “influencers” who rushed to give their verdicts, ever bother to come here and hear this side of the story? Or was the judgment already written before anyone cared to listen?

Claims are now emerging that the incident was misrepresented as a communal dispute between two religions, while it was actually an old dispute between two neighboring families.
According to the statement from the alleged victim’s side, Prince and Uttam reportedly harassed a woman when they found her alone, which further escalated the earlier conflict.
They also claim that the earlier narrative that a small child threw colors was misleading. Instead, they allege that a 20-year-old man named Prince threw a balloon filled with dirty water or mud, which triggered the confrontation.
Until now, it was being said that a child had thrown the color, but after the victim’s statement surfaced, the name Prince has reportedly been added to the account. The allegation is that he threw the mud-filled balloon at the woman and harassed her, which led to the escalation of the dispute.

According to a woman seen in a video, the incident started when a 20-year-old named Prince threw dirty water balloons at a Muslim woman during Holi.

When she objected, drunk men allegedly misbehaved with her. That humiliation and harassment, she says, sparked the chain of events that followed.

The same woman further alleges that Tarun, his family, and associates later beat her relatives severely, leaving them hospitalised, and that they were taken to Tihar Jail without proper medical treatment.

Even more disturbing are her claims that police stood by and watched as violence unfolded, while mobs allegedly entered homes and damaged property in front of law enforcement. #IndianMuslims
