Woke up and sold GoldFlag·com for $1,200 USD this morning through Sedo.

Checked my cost basis + ~10 years of renewals…
about 5x return. Not bad. Then my wife walks over and says:

“Gold just hit an all-time high.
The gold I bought around 2010 is up maybe 3–4x.
I’m thinking of buying more gold.”

Me (panicking internally):
“Uh… gold is kind of high right now…
it could pull back anytime.
Why not let me invest in digital gold instead?
You know… domain names.”
She rolls her eyes 🙄

So I proudly show her the GoldFlag·com sale:
“See? Domains can outperform gold!”

She replies, ice cold:
“Yeah, but your liquidity sucks.
Gold can be sold anytime.
Your domains? Not so much.”
…
I shut up. 😐

Later, while preparing the domain transfer, I suddenly noticed something painful:

This domain had a $2,500 USD offer back in 2018.
I COMPLETELY FORGOT. 🤦‍♂️

Which means…
I just sold it for less than half of an offer from 8 years ago.

I could’ve exited at a 10x+ return back then.

So technically…
I didn’t make money today.
I just made less than I could have. 🥲

Lesson of the day:
Domains > gold (maybe).
Liquidity > conviction (sometimes).
Memory > everything. 😭
