🌍 Pleased to share our latest research published in Scientific Reports!
📄 Title: "Impact of Plasticity and Stress History on Thermal Volume Changes in Clays"
Our study reveals critical insights into how fine-grained soils respond to thermal loading. We found that:
✅ Normally consolidated and low-plasticity over-consolidated clays undergo significant contraction when heated. ✅ High-plasticity, over-consolidated clays initially expand slightly, then contract with further heating. ✅ Stress history is essential—over-consolidation and plasticity together determine thermal behavior.
This research enhances our understanding of soil behavior under thermal loads, critical for optimizing geothermal energy systems, nuclear waste repositories, and managing soil-atmosphere interactions.
