🌊 Today, #CARICOM joins the global community in commemorating World Oceans Day 2026.
🐠 The ocean is at the heart of our Region. It sustains our economies, supports livelihoods, drives tourism and trade, and helps to build resilience in the face of climate change.
🌎 As we observe World Oceans Day, we reaffirm our commitment to the sustainable management and protection of our shared marine resources. Through the development of the Draft CARICOM Ocean Policy (CAROP), the Community is advancing a coordinated regional approach to ocean governance, supporting healthy marine ecosystems, thriving blue economies, and a sustainable future for generations to come.
💙 Together, we can safeguard our ocean heritage and unlock the full potential of the Caribbean Sea for sustainable development.

🌊 The oceans connect us all.
They cover two-thirds of our planet and are home to most of the life on Earth. They are as important to us as they are vast.
This #WorldOceansDay, let’s come together to protect what we love: https://t.co/geNqXuncig 💙 🩵

All eyes on our blue planet this #WorldOceanDay.
The ocean connects every coastline, every community, and every one of us. When people come together with a shared purpose, we can protect the waters that sustain life, strengthen communities, and inspire action across the globe.
“Many small people, in many small places, doing many small things, can change the face of the world.” — African proverb
“Many drops make a mighty ocean.” — Japanese proverb
“One broomstick breaks easily, but the bundle is strong.” — Kenyan proverb
This #WorldOceanDay, let’s stand together for a thriving ocean and a healthier future for our planet.

P.S. A gentle reminder to drop the “s” — we share one interconnected ocean that unites us all. Thinking of it as one global ocean helps inspire the cooperation and collective action needed to protect it for future generations.

On #WorldEnvironmentDay, @UNESCO designates 14 new #BiosphereReserves across 14 countries, bringing the World Network of Biosphere Reserves to 797 sites in 145 countries!
Three countries welcome their first biosphere reserves: Montenegro, Timor-Leste, and Aruba which sees its entire territory designated as such.
These territories are living examples of how people and nature can thrive together: protecting biodiversity, supporting sustainable development and strengthening local communities.

Today, June 2nd, is World Responsible and Respectful Tourism Day!
Traveling isn’t just about discovering stunning landscapes. It’s also about respecting local cultures, preserving nature, and making a positive impact on communities.
Let’s choose tourism that protects rather than harms.

Monday is #WorldReefDay!
Coral reefs are home to over 25% of marine life — yet they are under serious threat due to human activity.

Another reason to be proud to be Kenyan 🇰🇪
Did you know Kenya, Tanzania, & Zambia are the only places on Earth where you'll find the pancake tortoise? 🐢
Even better: Kenya is the first to launch a comprehensive plan to protect this species.

Happy World Tapir Day
Malaysia is among the countries that have the largest tapir species in the world.
This tapir species is known as the Malayan tapir or its scientific name Tapirus indicus. Interestingly, this species is also the only tapir species in the world that has a distinctive color, namely white stripes on its body. Behind its unique appearance, the tapir plays an important role in maintaining the balance of our forest ecosystem.
However, despite its importance, this species is increasingly threatened. Loss of habitat due to development activities, road accidents, and irresponsible human activities continue to endanger the population of this species.
World Tapir Day reminds us that every species has its own role and value in the natural world. Without our actions today, future generations may not be able to recognize this unique species.
Come on, let's play our part together:
✅ Protect natural habitats
✅ Comply with wildlife laws
✅ Spread awareness to the community
Every small effort of ours brings about big changes. Protect the tapir, protect our natural heritage.
For the clothing, I referenced traditional Swahili attire from Comoros. In the past, we were often shirtless and dressed similarly to the Mijikenda, but we wore crossed chest straps. This image, taken in Comoros, was my reference. He is wearing traditional Swahili clothing, and if you remove the European-style shirt he has on, then yes, that is the look I was referring to.
